  1. I seen an item that may be useful to catch the blowby smoke coming from our engines. Found these on ebay, "an oil catch can kit", for about $20. When I turn off my engine in my 38, I see a little smoke coming out of the breather on the oil filler/breather tube.
  2. This is the set-up on my 48 Dodge 4 door.
  3. Summit racing of Ohio has an inline oil filter, around $100 though. These look a little similar to the old throw away filters. NASCAR is using inline filters also.
  4. I believe the old fuel filters had inside filters similar to that one.
  5. The canister that takes the cartridge like the Napa 1080 can be found on ebay usually. I have been using the Fram C3 cartridge available at Tractor Supply or other farm supply stores. I figure farm equipment will be around for some time, so these filters should be available for a long time also.
  6. Hey Bob, sorry to hear of your Dad passing. I remember you telling of him riding in your car. I know both of you enjoyed the good times.
  7. Are there 3 hinges on the door? 37 and 38 Plymouth/Dodge had 3 hinges, on the 2 door models.. The headlight looks to be mounted on the fender, like the Dodge does, Plymouth on the nose area.
  8. I do not Drink and Drive, but I am known to drink a beer and type. Type poorly I might add.
  9. The 3 speed trans locked in second gear the other day not far from home. I got it driveable again today. I have to be more careful changing gears. Today's test rum was good. The more I drive it, the better the brakes have become. The brakes were my biggest worry.
  10. I spent several days on my wheels for my newer tires. After sanding and using a grinder/sander with the wire brush attachment, the wheels would form rust in a minute or so with the high humidity in July.
  11. I put a similar switch on my 38 on the inside, but found out the switch worked the opposite of how I thought it worked. I had to spend another day putting it on the outside of the car bending it like you did. Works great now.
  12. I used the better body parts from the two 38s that I bought. The frame, and radiator section from the delux 38, and the body from the Business model. All the front fenders need about 4 inchs of metal add to the bottom.
  13. Back in the spring I started my little Plymouth after it's long winter nap. I had put a little trans fluid in each cylinder, in the fall, so I run a hose from the tail pipe to the outside so as not to fill the shop with smoke. After a short time the smoke cleared and it has run good since then.
  14. This year I just want to drive it with the 3 speed and 36 engine. The 5 speed and 56 engine are about all together, for a later install. I will take the front fenders, hood, etc. off later and do more body work.
  15. I finally got the 38 driveable with new tires, brakes working very good, etc. My wife and I went visiting friends this evening. The little 38 is not all that pretty, but it runs good.
  16. My 48 had skirts, visor, spot lights, etc, when I bought it.
  17. Thanks for posting this information. I read on some of the legislation proposed here in Virginia. This is info you do not hear on the TV., like a 10 cent hike in gasoline tax proposal. I am going to contact my local legislator on an idea of the yearly safety inspection sticker to put the sticker on the outside of a vehicle instead of the inside on the windshield. The stickers are used on cycles and some trailers, so nothing new to produce for the state. My reason is that the safety inspections are usually done by a dirty, greasy mechanic, that I really do not want to be in my car.
  18. I was working on my project of a 5 speed Ford Ranger trans, 1983 to 1987, on my 56 Dodge engine. I had a thread on here before, "5 speed not T5". I used a bell housing from my 38 or 37 Plymouth, that required milling the 5 speed input shaft retainer cover about 1/16 of an inch, or the bell housing could be cut 1/16. Drilled holes to bolt trans to bell. I have to have a pilot bushing made.
  19. My friend's Ford Sport Trac, had a bad tie rod end with only 60,000 miles on it. Must have been no lube in it from the factory. The tires did not show any kind of odd wear at all. I took my newer vehicles in to "mister dumbwrench" dealers several times for warranty repairs. Other that that, I would not take my mower in for a free oil change with those guys.
  20. Gary, when and where are the cruise-ins at Kingsport? I live in Abingdon, about an hour away. The Abingdon cruise-ins are on Saturday evenings, 6Pm to when ever, at the Majic Mart parking lot.
  21. I have had AIG for many years. I have no insurance claims with them, so do not know how they are on that aspect. AIG is much cheaper than any other insurance company I can find. Geico, State Farm, and Allstate were about double what I pay.
  22. Here in Virginia the DMV will have 6 or more different ways to title a car. Each time I go it is something different. My 49 title was easy. I bought the car in Ga., where you only get a bill of sale for old cars, but the car had a Ill. title from the prevous owner. Another title I had done, I had to go to DMV 5 times, talk to a different person, and bring something else signed, or copied, etc. On the 5th trip, the lady did not ask for anything other than the title, and I received the title no problem. We do not needed titles notarized in Va.
  23. I was looking at the reading I had wrote down for the 37 sender, 10 ohm to 32 ohm,,,,,,,and my 38 sender, 11 ohm to 50 ohm. My Mustang sender, (new), 0 ohm to 50 ohm. The high ohm reading are full, and the low ohm reading are empty. My ohm reader is not very accurate.
  24. My 37s and 38s have easy access.
  25. Capt.Fred, your hopes and desires of your car is what is important. Some people will never understand why or what we do in our hobbie. Your car is unique, slow or fast.
