  2. I am running a 2" pipe I made from straight stock, no muffler. 2 1/4 would have been better. I will try different mufflers later. I sprayed my pipes with barbaque grill paint, still looks good after several years.
  3. We have a Buick that the wife likes for an everyday vehicle. She has little interest in the 38 Coupe I have spent 25 years on. "Thank you God, Thank you God" For some reason she fell in love with the 48 four door Dodge. The Dodge needs a paint job, after alot of sanding/primer. Only one fender to do body work on. Dodge needs new seat covering, and the headliner put back in place. We live 3 miles from town, so we have plenty of empty roads for my wife to drive with no or very little traffic going in the direction away from town. When I get the brakes very good, we can cruise the 48 a little until we pull it in the shop to get it ready to paint.
  4. What I use to coat those hidden areas, is the spray cap of a WD40 can with the little tube attached, onto a rattle can of spray paint. I spray into the drain holes, and some times drill a small hole, and spray paint into.....
  5. With the stock 3 speed trans, first gear is not very low, but third gear is not very high. Speed past 45MPH makes the engine have alot of RPM. I am thinking of using the stock rearend, I believe a 3 1/2 gear ratio, or I could use my Ford Ranger 3.73 rearend.
  6. My wife says she wants to drive the 48 Dodge when I get it running good. I told her she needs to start driving with a "small Dodge". She did very good with the riding mower all summer....
  7. Today I spent some time to measure the 5 speed/36 engine alignment and fit into the 38 frame. Looking at the shifter and steering wheel, the bench seat should be okay.
  8. I have been using the Dual Master Cylinder, drums front, drums rear, all summer, and the brakes have been very good. Here in Virginia, roads are up and down, so the brakes get a good test very often.
  9. azmichael1, Stay with us, you will find that for the most part, people here are in a similar situation as you, in your search for answers to a project. I am 63, and have been working on old cars as long as I can remember, and still learn something new very often. I forget alot of stuff very often also. The Goldwing bike club I was in used the motto, "for fun and safety". That is the values I hold with my Plymouth/Dodge projects. Best of Luck, Bob..

  12. Years ago I put a 12 volt generator and regulator on my 38 Coupe. After starting and running the engine, I turned off the engine, the generator "motored", turning the fan. The fix for my problem was that the ground on the voltage regulator was not grounded good, making the generator into an electric motor.
  13. What kind of rotors, and calipers did you use?. My stock brakes with 86 Dodge MC is working good on my 38 Coupe. On my 37 Coupe project, I would like to try the disc set up on front, Ranger rearend, 230 Dodge engine or a 201 Plymouth engine with a 5speed Ranger transmission. I have the 230 engine, but ran into a friend with a 38 Coupe that has a 39 engine he does not want.

  16. Last year I went to Tractor Supply and bought a 6 volt battery with alot of cranking amps. It has worked very good. My test volt meter reads 6 volts before starting, and 7 volts after starting....
  17. Your computer fan ideas got me to thinking, (finally). I took apart a wine cooler this afternoon, a friend gave to me. It had three 12 volt fans. I hooked them up to a battery charger. They work good, very quiet. One may be enough to push a little warm air to the windshield..

  19. Chet, stop in any time. I am about 3 miles off Interstate 81. If you have any problems along the way, give me a call, or a pm. I have a tow dolly that I keep handy so if my Plymouth has a problem. I bought a good tow bar also that I plan on keeping in my Plymouth. I hope I have my Plymouth in better shape next year to travel in. Right now I am limited to about 40 to 45 MPH cruising speed. The trans/gearing is low.
  20. That is a great find. I used a 12 volt to 6 volt reducer on my 38 heater, but I have been looking for a small 12 volt fan to add to push air to the defrost vents. A friend of mine has very many old computers for parts....
  21. Since our little town ended this years Saturday cruise-ins for this year, my wife and I make Sunday afternoons our "ride the backroads" way to enjoy our little Plymouth. It feels real nice to just get in the Plymouth at any time, stop to fill the tank, and enjoy the ride. We will cruise as long as the weather is nice, and then the Plymouth will go in the shop, up on jack stands, and back to repairs, and improvements.
  22. Sorry to hear of your bike incident. I have been riding bikes over 45 years, and have been very, very lucky. Yesterday I had to remind my wife not to distract me when coming up to a yield/stop sign and making a turn. I am in a ATV club also. At our monthly club meeting I always bring up and discuss rider saftey. Being a bike/atv rider for many years has made me a better car driver also. Here in Virginia, tailgaters is as big a problem as entering into a intersection, too much NASCAR I guess.
  23. That reminds me of what I seen on Utube, of guys riding their cycles up on the front wheel, until they fall forward, "kiss the road"..
