  1. I have been adding Lucas gas treatment to my Plymouth, cycle, ATV, and mower, with good results. Without any treatment, just does not have much power...
  2. I bought a new manual temperature gauge at the auto parts store for my Plymouth. Before I installed it, I put the end that goes in the block, into a glass of hot water to see if it worked, and to see how accurate it was....
  3. I rebuild the wheel cylinders on my 48 last year. I used an old master cylinder with a short line hooked to each cylinder to force the cups out.
  4. The chain that was on my engine has 48 links. The one I bought at Napa had 48 links but was for small teeth sprockets.
  5. I believe some of the Plymouths had a 1 inch bore, and the Dodge had the bigger bore, 1 and 1/8..
  6. I believe the NTP 9348 is 68 links, for a V8. Another number I found is C 490 at RockAuto, for $44.79, Auto Zone, $38.99, if that is the corrice one.
  7. Thanks guys. I do not know how I found the incorrect number on Napa.com. Nothing shows up on the site now for the 56. I will try Rock auto....
  8. I did a search on the Napa timing chain number, but did not find the number. Anyone know the timing chain number sold at Napa? I have searched Napa.com, but no luck there. Last week I thought I had the Napa number, ordered the chain #9-494, but it does not fit. I am working on a 1956 Dodge 6 cylinder. thanks, Bob..
  9. I have a 95 Ranger rearend, drum brakes, I will use on one of cars. This rearend is not as wide as the Plymouth. With 87 or so 15" Ranger wheels, it may fit ok. Your Ranger rearend with disc brakes, may be a different width than my Ranger rearend though.
  10. I remember going to the dirt track races of the 50s in W.Va. with my Uncle. The cars were of the 30s. Now, I go to the local dirt track to watch. There is a class for kids, with 4 cylinders. They are more fun to watch than the faster cars. Dale Earnhart's grandson was racing there a few years ago, until he moved on up to other classes, and other tracks........
  11. Will be awhile before I can get this road ready. I am going to China for month in a couple of weeks. Have been working on the 56 engine also. I would like to put the 56 engine, with the 5 speed on it, into the 38. Should make for a good ride. Have new tires ready to mount. Replaced a brake line for the 3rd time, poor quality brass fittings, and finally got good brakes. The car is finally coming together....
  12. A quality blanket is 2 layers of material back to back, with inside stitching about every 2 inchs or so.
  13. I am using a bench seat, 3rd row seat from a Chevy Surburban. The Ranger 5 speed shifter is about 25 inch from the engine block. The 38 trans shifter is about 12 inch or so from the engine block. 12 inch or so back from the 38 trans shifter looks to be enough space for the 5 speed shifter.
  14. I have a valve like what you mentioned from a Ford Ranger. Has 4 connections. I have not tested it, but I believe it should allow hot water to flow to the pump when water is not going through the heater core.
  15. I have been trying on different size tires on my 38 Coupe. What looks the best so far is 235/75-15 on the rear with mid 80s Ford Ranger steel wheels. On the front I will go with a little smaller tire. I am thinking 225/75-15, or a 235/70-15, not sure yet. I need one for a test fit.
  16. Made a little progress today. Trans seem to line up ok....
  17. I read that plywood makes a good material for making a carb gasket. Would slow down the heat coming up from the engine to carb.
  18. Napa on line list, #8531 as $2.49.............mounting gasket.......... O'reilly list my 2 barrel gasket, $1.69...........
  19. I have been running a 180 in my 38 for the past 20 years. It stays close to 180 if outside temp is not too high, like about 85.. I tried the car one very hot day, about 95 degree, letting it idle for awhile. Had a cooking temp gauge in the radiator. Car got up to 190 to 195, no boil over. .
  20. Headliner, I can not find the headliner photos on my Photobucket account or this newer computer. I will have to get into the old computer for the photos. The blanket headliner was very easy, with the stitching already there. I used alot of clothspins to stretch and clamp over a few days time to let it stretch. I think on my next headliner install, I will lay the material on the top of the roof, attach some small weights, and let the material stretch for a few days, before the install. Maybe use a few bungee cords also.... Some newer vehicles have a small hole in the muffler to let out the moisture of the exhaust system. May be a good idea to drill a small hole in a new muffler, to let the moisture weep out. I noticed, there are no photos of my 49 Plymouth on Photobucket anymore.
  21. Wow, this would be a great photo to hang on my shop wall...
  22. I bought a couple sheets of cork gasket material from the auto parts store. I cut many of my own gaskets with the material.
  23. I have always had more than 1 project going, so have to work with a budget for each one. Tires, nothing wrong with using tires that are not new, that are in good shape, close to the correct size, not putting alot of miles on them anyway. Headliner, I used a new Walmart Blanket, about $20. It is already sewn for the bows every few inchs. Easy to install, looks as good, if not better than most headliners. Walmart.Com list a "micromink", I would like to see, and if nicer than what I have, I will install another headliner. Muffler, I bought a $70 pipe bender, , about $60 for new straight pipes, and bent my pipes myself. Have a small mig welder. Have plenty of mufflers lying around from cars I have junked, and a couple of new mufflers new in t he box I bought at flea markets, but am running no muffler for awhile, just straight pipe... If I was wealthy, I would still deal with my old cars on a budget, as I like the challenge. If I was wealthy, I would still would rather have my old Plymouths/Dodge than a $50,000 show rod. Our oldies have "character", as the people on this site. God Bless all of you guys..
  24. If the US and Cuba ever open their doors to each other, the US will suck up those cars very quick...
  25. I emailed the guy about the 37. He could not give me a price of how much he wants for it..........
