  1. Looking at the 4th photo, it looks as if you have 1 wire coming from the alt. I believe there should be 3 wires. A heavy gauge to the battery, another medium gauge wire for "R", and another for for "F". Has been some time since I worked on a GM.
  2. I did a test on my 38 to see if my temp gauge was accurate. I let my engine run in the parking lot on a very hot day with no cap on the radiator. I placed 2 cooking thermometers in the radiator. The engine ran at about 190 to 195 degree. Not bad for a 95 degree day. The cooking thermometers were very close to the inside temps.
  3. There is a switch on the back, 1 to 6, that makes the tach read even higher, if I change the setting.
  4. This is a new boat tach I bought on ebay years ago. I tested it today on my 38 Coupe. The tach reads double what the actual RPMs are. With the engine at a high RPM, the tach reads 6000 RPM.
  5. Seems none of these guys have never heard of a dust mask.
  6. On my 38 Plymouth, there are 4 different wheel cylinders, with I believe 3 different cup sizes
  7. I have been using Lucas Gas treatment in my Goldwing cycle, and lawn mowers the past couple of years. It made a big improvement on all of them.
  8. I guess I am lucky that I do not have a spare tire yet.
  9. This morning I installed a fuel pressure gauge close to the carb. The Ford needle valve working good, float level good. The gauge is running about 5psi, steady, and the electric fuel pump does not shut off like it did last year.
  10. My pump is a Mr Gasket pump, low pressure,,,it always shut off when pressure built up.
  11. Last Fall I backed my 38 Plymouth Coupe into the shop to spend some time on it over the winter. Today, I got the new battery hooked up, put in new gas, about ready to fire it up. Turned on iginition for a little, but the electric fuel pump would not stop. Took the top off the carb, to check float. There was no needle valve. How have I been driving it around the property for years with no needle valve? Took a valve out of a Ford carb and fit it to work. Float ok now, but electric fuel pump will build up alot of pressure but not shut off. Have to get a new pump tomorrow.
  12. Maybe those are the invisable hideaway doors you do not see very often.
  13. I made one from 1/4 inch thick aluminum. I was thinking of making one of 1/4 thick clear fiberglass as a "sightglass" like my cycle has.
  14. The wheels that are on the Grand Cherokee have a 5 inch back space. My stock 15 inch Plymouth wheels have a back space of 3.5 inch. I have been measuring the different wheels to see what would fit the best on each rearend, for total width.
  15. I just pulled the wheels off the Grand Cherokee rear. The disc brake pads are very small. Not much bigger than on my Goldwing.
  16. What many people do not understand about "China junk", is that US companies have parts made in China to the Company Specs. If a company wants to have quality products made in China that is no problem. Some of the parts that are stamped "USA" are made in China. I bought SKF wheel seals from Napa, that are stamped "USA". I also bought SKF wheel seals direct from the Manufacturer in China, that supplies SKF.
  17. I did a measurement on my friend's 98 Grand Cherokee rear end, from the outside edge of tire tread is 66 inch. My 38 Plymouth has an outside edge of 64.75 inch, with the original type wheels/tires, but does not fill the wheel wells up very nice. The 66 inch or a 67 inch tread to tread would look alot better. I have a 96 Ford Ranger rear, that has a 65 inch tread to tread width. With so many wheels have different back space, I would rather change the wheels than use spacers.
  18. I have several horns that I have taken from vehicles I have junked. I just ground the horn to a battery post, and touch the horn wire to the other battery post to test the sound..
  19. Was the horse, "a high horse"????
  20. I have 2 fire extinguishers, and I am trying to figure where is the best place to attach them where they are easy to get to. I seen the photos of the 38 Coupe that caught on fire, and there was no time to get to the fire extinguisher in behind the driver seat. I was thinking of mounting a fire extingquisher near the bottom of each door, if there is enought space to make a slot in the door panel....
  21. Here in Virginia, we are getting more rain than usual. Gives me a good opportunity to spend some time on my 38. I welded new brackets on a running board, that i later installed, and installed the front driver fender. If it rains tomorrow, i can spend time on the driver side.........
  22. I sure wish I had a Jasper rebuilt 230 flathead very low mileage and dependable as a hammer engine, that I could put in my...............shop, and admire and talk to everyday. I would feel like the luckest guy in the world.......But no, what do I have, and old 37, 201 that has been sitting in an Illinois cornfield since before I was born. I am so depressed, I think I will go make another pot of coffee............
