  1. I think the closest runner mat that looks pretty identical to the original style is sold at OSH. They sell it in rolls. To keep the lines going vertical, you would have to put two matts together and create one. Looks like this: http://www.rubbercal.com/Corrugated_Fine_Rib_Photo.html
  2. Here in So Cal, where are blood is thinner, a cold day is considered to be in the high 30's to 40's. Freezing is when we get down to high 20's to mid-30's. Since I live in the valley, it gets colder here than along the coast and Los Angeles. On that same token, it gets hotter too.
  3. Nice car. One thing I like is to drive when it's cold out and have that heater going. Our heaters really keep us toasty.
  4. Okay guys, thanks. I wasn't sure. I remember my parents starting the car and letting it warm up for what seem like a long time. Somewhere I heard you were supposed to get the engine warm before driving off. Just trying to preserve the engine the best I can.
  5. Just curious what a safe engine warm up time would be on the straight 6 engines on a 75-85 degree day before driving off. Actually, how warm should the engine get? Is driving with a cold engine bad for it? Just wonder what anyone else's thoughts and opinions are on this. PS: I did a search for this in the archives, but nothing was found.
  6. I feel that should be the end to your problem. I nice, new one is better than trying to fix that old, rusty one.
  7. Unless you know auto electric, which a lot of us don't, don't even mess with measuring Ohms, etc., on a sending unit that is on it's last legs. I think the best thing to do is just replace all of it. Get yourself a NOS fuel gauge (they are always on Ebay), new wiring and new sending unit. Don't knock yourself out trying to preserve and use the old stuff. I've tried and it still doesn't work. Everything has been replaced except the sending unit, which I'm going to go ahead, bite the bullet and purchase.
  8. Actually, I first took your comment as maybe a little "snide," so I decided to play with it. I guess it's just a matter how you read it. Nonetheless, no hard feelings on this side. PS: In all fairness, I'll delete mine too.
  9. Wow, those are a lot of posts between the two. Are you sure they are all technical or do those also include OT subjects as well? I think, to a new person just joining this site and seeing a note posted saying "Read, Research, then ask" would be give the impression that this isn't a very friendly site. And the search option isn't the most user friendly, either. Example: The other day I had a buddy on here call me from a wrecking yard to see what bumpers on other Plymouths were interchangeable with the P15's. I told him that I would check on here. I typed in "bumper" and got a ton of threads with the word "bumper," but nothing that I was looking for. I tried "interchangeable bumper" and got a ton of threads with the word "interchangeable" and then the same with "bumper" as well. Again, nothing to do with what I was looking for. I tried "bumper swap," same thing. This is a case when I would have post a thread asking, but my buddy was waiting for me to get back to him so there was no time. I would have thought that something would have been posted regarding interchangeable bumpers, and maybe it is, but it's not easy to find. I was thinking of starting a quick thread asking about it, but then I had to wonder if it already may have been posted and didn't want to "inconvenience" anyone (sad to think that one has to feel that they are walking on eggs shells on here). Anyway, through the photos he sent me of the car from his cell phone and the pics of the P15 bumper that I had, we figured it out that they weren't the same. Had he not had his cell phone, it would have been tough, but it's always good to know exactly. One individual on here, who is very technical in his knowledge and cunning with his remarks, tends to forget that others aren't so technical and can't understand what he means. And when you come back at him that you don't understand, he makes you feel like you are incompetent or something. He's even been told by others on here to "put it in layman's terms." I'm the kind of person that, if I had the knowledge that so many on here have of our cars, and I saw posts regarding questions of things that I know were covered already, I would still help the person out. That is just how I am. Again, if someone on here sees a question brought up that has already been asked, and it ticks them off, ignore it. What more has to be explained? Is it really going to twist your arm to answer a repeated question for someone or at least send them a link to answer their question? I can't believe how anal some people on here are about this. Pretty soon this is going to become a very unfriendly site and be known as such. Nonetheless, regardless of which individuals get upset over repetitive posts or someone posting an Ebay item up for bid, it's not going to stop me from doing it because those are the minority who, for some reason, think they run this board. Last I checked, the moderator makes the rules and lays the laws. If this keeps up, eventually, people are going to leave because nobody wants to be around a bunch of people that are anal and complain, and I think I speak for a good handful on here.
  10. Okay, then that explains it. I like how the striped material looks on the doors, anyway.
  11. Nice pics, Arthur. I have a question though. I noticed that the door panels have an insert of the same fabric on that is on the seats. I was told and read on here that the '46 P15 models only had this and that the '47' and '48 models didn't. How is it you have it on your car? Are you sure it's a '47? Darin
  12. Wow, Don...I don't remember naming any names . I also don't recall asking someone to "look up" something for me, unless I couldn't absolutely find it or if a link wasn't where they said it was. First of all, I gave the advice, that I got on here, to my mechanic because I knew it was good advice and I trusted it to be a better source. What did you want me to do...ask for a discount because I told him how to rebuild my engine, which I didn't? He may have taken the advice, but that doesn't mean he used it. I can see where you are coming from, but I can guarentee you that it didn't happen that way with me. I really have never had many problems with people giving me advice or helping me out with a problem I was having, with the exception of you and another on here. Sometimes it's easier to ask a question rather than spend 1-2 frustrating hours looking for a past thread, especially when it's something that needs to be known right away. Sometimes it's not easy finding things on here, but believe me, I have done more research than you think and have used only the resourses that I can find in the archives. It's when I can't find what I'm looking for is when I ask. Gee, I guess I'm going to have to start jotting down what I have asked to make sure I don't ask it again. Tell you what, from now on, so that you don't feel that someone is "profiting" from your advice, set up a Paypal account and start charging? What do you think? Sounds like a swell plan to me Again, Don, I have great respect for your knowledge in our cars, and have greatly appreciated your past advice, but your "my Plymouth has no exhaust fumes whatsoever" attitude is for the birds. If someone asks a repetitive question, and it's something that has been answered before, simply ignore it if it bothers you that much. It's that simple. This way people won't think you are a grumpy old man (you said it, not me). There are others on here that don't see it your way and would be glad to answer questions no matter how long ago it was asked. Believe me, it's not worth getting your blood pressure up over.
  13. Well, I don't know Atlanta's traffic, but out here that's pretty slow. The car can probably go faster, but don't want to push it.
  14. Glad you brought this up. You know, I have always wondered why few on here get their panties all up in a bunch if a question is asked that may be already in the archives. I have asked questions before and have been blatantly been told to look it up in the archives for myself. Basically, I find that to be kind of a rude response. Either give me advice, maybe direct me to the link or just keep your comments and opinions to yourself. Sometimes it is hard to find things in the archives, especially if it's a question that needs a quick response.
  15. With the 230cid '49 Dodge flathead, '55 Ply crank and head and R-10 overdrive, I have gotten it up to 85 mph, but just once. I don't do that anymore because I'm not sure if the engine was designed to go that fast or not, and besides I'm not a lead foot daddy-o either.
  16. Man, this would have been a great show to go to, but 34 F in Big Bear...in August?
  17. Just by chance I was at Home Depot picking up some house paint and it dawned on me that they might have some small sheets of rubber. So I asked the clerk if they had any and he said they did. He took me to them and right by them was something that struck my eye....a black rubber kitchen sink strainer washer for a garbage disposal. I picked it up, looked at it, then measured it. It was a hair over 4.15 OD. I thought...what the hell...I'll try it. I bought it, brought it home and noticed that itjust about fit perfectly in the cap housing, with slight slack. So I placed the washer on the top edge of the housing, placed the cap over it and clamped it tight. Started it and tested for leakage by rubbing a paper towel around the side of the top and no leaks! I even reved the engine for a few seconds and still no leakage. So I think I found a new gasket, but will still try to get the exact one in there when I find it, but this looks like it will get me by until then. We'll see how it holds up after my drive this evening.
  18. Where did you get your "flapper type" seat from?
  19. Ok, guys. I went ahead and forward this to him. He's going to try what you have all said and run tests. He thanks you all.
  20. I was looking at the link that Norm posted (thanks Norm) and saw that I don't have the original style oil filter housing, of course. Below are some pics of it opened and closed so you can see how it's made up and possible be able to identify it's type, but like I said before...there is no way of knowing what kind of car this came off of or what brand it is, etc. This is making it very hard to find the right size. The filter I have in there now is WIX 51080. It came with two o-rings, but neither one fit the cap housing. BTW...what purpose is the spring in there for? Just curious.
  21. I have a buddy that has a 1953 Plymouth Cranbrook 4-door with a 218 flathead 6. He's running a 6 volt system on it still. He's been having problems with it stalling an giving out while driving and won't start back up once it stalls.. He rebuilt the carburator a few months back and just installed a new remake of the original fuel pump with glass bowel filter. The gas tank is new, but the line from the gas tank to the pump is original, though he cleaned it out with an air line before installing the new gas tank. The line from the fuel pump to carb is new. He is assuming that it could be the carburator, but not sure. One day it stalled and he put in the throttle, but no gas was squirting into the throat of the carb. It ran fine for one day and the last three days it's been dying out. Any ideas what could be causing this? He's been trying to troubleshoot, but doesn't seem to be finding the source of the problem. Agian, I'm just posting what he told me. I will relay any info to him. PS: I'm doing this because he has no interenet access, though he said he has tried to register on here a couple times, he never gets approved for some reason.
  22. Well, you did make some good points, but nonetheless, true or not, I think I'll stay off it. Besides, I have nothing to trade in anyway.
  23. Someone just sent me this info that I think everyone should know about before going onto the cars.gov site. Apparently, once you access the site, click "accept" and continue, the govenment has access to your computer and it's files and also claims them property of the U.S. Government. This was broadcated on Fox News. Seems pretty legit to me, but I'll let you all be the judges. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=62f_1249094198
  24. Wow, Norm! Good going! And to say that I actually know you.
  25. I only saw one O-ring in this box.
