  1. from the above table entry I was able to cross reference the mopar number 863510 and that crosses over to the EIS Master cylinder number E1687. If you refer back tot he pictures that I posted this is the picture that is shown on the MC in the type K pictures and has the 1 1/8 bore. The other two number that xrefed from the above chart are not listed. So when going to swap meets look at the casting number on the side of the MC. if you finf a Wagner MC then the casting number would be FE1687. From what I have seen the industry used the same numbering system but some have put their own Prefix number to the unit prior to the use of the same casting number. So e1687 and FE1687 are the same MC but come from different manufacturers. reading and understanding these catalogs can be a great learning process and knowledge is great to have. 2. did a search on Ebay use this : MOPAR/EIS master cylinder kit, for 1950 to 54. One inch. Item: 5165 this is a GGG kit and has the 1 inch piston. take a look to see if it fits its only 11 dollars. Mike work used on 50 -55 Chrylser and Desoto so maybe someone put in the Chry/Desoto MC in this car because it might have been a close fit. Call me if you have any questions. 3. In my EIS Brake catalog there is a Chrysler Cross reference section to the EIS number. The number that you are providing 863425 is not in my book so I can not provide any crossover to the appropriate EIS Master Cylinder. I also looked around that numbering and there is nothing even close to this number. Do you have a parts book for your car and if so what number is listed in the parts manual this might help us narrow down the correct MC. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  4. word of caution: If you are planning to have your truck judged at an AACA event the hight polished white oak with the high gloss stain will be an automatic deduction of points and might disqualify you from winning. AACA has determined that the original beds for the old trucks were rough cut white pine and they would have been painted a black color. Any truck that has been a previous winner has been grandfatherd and will not have any deductions. So the point is that do what you want but be prepared if you go to have it judged. Most people want the high gloss white oak affect with the polished stainless strips. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  5. If you are not experienced in body and fender repair I would be very couscous with the shrinking disk. If you really want to have the perfect sides then I would take to a good body guy and have them work on them. I know my talents and that is not one of them so I would farm it out, but maybe you have done prior body and dent work and feel comfortable doing this type of work. If you do too much damage then it will cost you even more to fix what you have done, get an estimate from a professional to see what the cost would be. Someone might do it in their slow time on a straight hourly rate. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  6. I have been using the new Stabilizer 360 product in my 39 Desoto. This addative creates a vapor to coat the upper part of the gas tank metal that is not currently being covered with the gasoline and it is also a stabilizer. You can get the product at Walmart and they have the best price. Best to put this in you tank when it is going to sit for a while and will last and protect the car for 12 months if the car sits over the winter. They recommend to put this in everytime you fill up the tank and it also acts as a line cleaner and carb cleanrer. Good protection for only a few dollars especially with these old metal gas tanks and metal fuel lines and FP and old carbs. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  7. Hey Don and the rest of the group There are two MC that look alike on the outside but have a different bore on the inside and Don you have the proof Looked in my EIS catalog E3241 and E13482 both have the same outer casting. The e3241 has the 1 1/8 bore The E13482 has the 1 inch bore E3241 fit Chryler 46-49 Dodge 46-49 Desoto 46-49 ply 46-49 but the Dodge 50-52 Desoto 50-52 and ply 50-54 uses this same MC E 13482 fits Chry 49-52 Desoto 50-52 dodge d42 estate wagon 1951-52 e 13484 uses the 1 1/8 bore and was used on chry 50-54 e 17632 used on 1 inch bore chry 53-54 Desoto 53-54 So the biggest think is that you need to know the casting number on your Master Cylinder so that you get the correct kits to rebuild them. refer to the attached picture and refer to the Type K pictures and notice the various numbers that have the same body style Hope this might solve the mystery on these MC. This is the reason why I collect the old catalogs and people should take my up on getting this knowledge for their own files. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com 50 Ply MC type K.pdf 50 Ply MC.pdf
  8. according to my EIS brake catalog the mastercyclinder that should be in your car is a E3241 and has a 1 1/8 bore send me you home email and I send you pictures of the correct MC and the other information. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  9. The metal is known as potmetal and these do pit over time because of the rain. They are not stainless steel. The main belt trim is stainless steel. The grill is brass with chrome plating. The trim corner piece on the hood side panel is also pot metal. Call me rich Hartung I have the 39 Desoto which has the same body style as your 39 Dodge. I live near King of Prussia PA cell 484-431-8157 also have spare hood for your 39 Dodge. Desoto1939@aol.com Rich Hartung
  10. Have you tried any of the regular Mopar Vendors such as Roberts, Andy Bernbuams. They do carry the correct sized battery cables and they also have the ends crimped on them. Try to go onto their webpages to get the prices and with the shipping. They might be just a cheap when considering that you have to travel around to get what you are looking for. Rich Hartung
  11. according to my Hollander books 1 inch by 10 spines in the inner end 32 1/4 inches long. Plymouth 1937 48 Exec 7 Passenger will interchange so yes the axles should fit The differential also should fit from 1937 - 48 exec 7 passenger can not answer the question about the overall length and if the spring perchs the same but I would think they would be same if the axle shaft is the same. 12. So you said not wanting to start as the first start up in the morning. So with that statement then we can assume that the car will at least start is that correct or the car will not start at all. How many days has the car start prior to your trying to restart the car? It could also be that the gas pump needs to get gas back upto the carb again. Do you have an electric fuel pump on the car. Do you have the automatic choke set properly for the car if there is one installed. Does the car have to be cranked for along time and then does it eventually start? Please provide more input as to what is acutally happening. Rich Hartung
  13. Denis in the second post from actionmp he stated he might need the cluster gear and that is what is in the picture the cluster gear. I also sent him an IM stating that I have a borg warner transmission catalog that lists all of the internal parts for this trans. Waiting to hear back from him to see if he want a copy of the page. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  14. Everyone is providing some input but the original poster has either not read our replies or has not been back on the forum. We need his input so I guess all we can do is hope he has solved his issue. Rich Hartung
  15. I was doing some searching for an older Mopar Part that was still in the MoPar box. I just found the site www.MyMopar.com I was able to enter an older six digit part number such as 676930 and it listed is as the steering sector for my 1939 Desoto. Give it a try and see if it can find a part number abd provide the description for you. Might help with that unknown part that you have. If it works then save the link in your favorites. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  16. yes there are 8/6 volt battery combinations that are available. But what do you mean by getting hard to start. I am 65 years old and I have a hard time getting my body and my engine starting in my personal body everyday, all kidding aside. Please explain the hard starting situations. Has the car been sitting for several days or only hours. Has the gas in the line possibly drained back down to the Fuel pump. Do you have an electric pump at the rear of the car near the gas tank. It is hard starting after the engine has been hot. How old are the plugs, cap, rotor point condenser and wires. Do you have the proper 0/1 gage battery cables is there a good clean ground strap on the car how are the battery connections any loose. Pleas provide more input so we can all try to help with your problem. Also how cold is cold please put a number for us. Rich Hartung and the rest of the Forum members.
  17. Auctionmp: I sent you a PM please reply back or call me. I might have the info that you are looking for Rich Hartung also try this item description on ebay it might be the one your are looking for: NOS 1941-49 Dodge Truck Cluster Gear #599741 13-17-26-33 Tooth Cost 130
  18. At least you know it is a Chrysler trans. It is a manual not a torqueflite. and the year it came out of the truck. Are you looking for internal parts to replace any parts, are you planning to resue this in another truck. I do not know who manuafactured the trans for Chrysler and not sure if anyone can be that specific. I do have a Borg Warner Trans and reaend catalog that lists the various components that can be used to replace the internal parts if that is what you are after. I looked in my Hollander book and from what I can find this is a T251 Transmission and main drive gear is aT251-16 Rich Hartung
  19. Jipjob: we all now are assuming that you used the ammco brake gage to set the shoe adjustment. But why was the shoe wearing on an edge or was it because the shoe was not adjusted properly with the toe and heel adjustments. Were the shoe no properly seated on the backing plates, please lets us know what you did. The Ammco tool or miller brake tool is so importamt to getting good brakes with these older cars. Just curious as to what you did to solve the issue. This is why I loan out the Ammco brake tool. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  20. DOn thanks for themupdated posting and the pictures of the fp and add on filter. that is basically what I have on my 39 Desoto. Rich Hartung
  21. Don: I have the stock Ball and Ball carb on my 39 Desoto and the stock fuel pump which is the AC 588 that has the glass bowel and just before the carb I have another fuel bowel which is the newer style AC that has the glass bowel and a paper filter. I am not having any issues with fuel delivery or the engine stalling out. I have the 5/16 fuel line that is standard on my 39 Desoto. The Carter filter that has the ceramic filter was used as standard equipment back when these engines and cars were being run on a daily basis. Maybe the size of the picture is what is making you think the carter filter is not big enough to handle the fuel supply. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  22. Why not put the fuel filter as an inline prior to the FP and maybe back by the fueltank. This way you catch any thing there first and eliminate the plumbing. I also have the AC glass bowel filter assembly just prior to my carb on a 39 Desoto with the same fp which is an AC588. Are you getting any problems currently with this setup is the first question that people are going to ask? I do not think you should have any issues. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  23. I was in my carter carb catalog and look what I found two pages on the flanges and dimension Hope this answers you questions, Rodney. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com carter carb flange 1.pdf carter carb flange 2.pdf
  24. It all depends on what you are doing with the car. If you are showing the car at an AACA national meet then you should have the correct shape muffler installed and the correct length. They do lookunder the car to see how the undercarriage is an if it is clean and restored to factory like condition upo0n when the car was delivered from the factory to the dealership. If you just have a driver then any muffler that will fit and also sound like you want it to is just fine. If you had a factory muffler installed originally then maybe you will also have to have a new tailpipe bent because the newer muffler might not be the same length or a piece of extra length tailpipe will have to be fitted to make up the distance. Hope this helps. Try to get a walker because I have heard that so long as you can read the muffler number they are guaranteed. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  25. Rodney: Glad to see that you are still posting. I looked in my AEA catalog and for your P9 and also P10 the correct carb should be either of the following and it is also according to if you have the sisson choke installed on the car. Carter D6A1 - D6A2 without sisson choke Carter D6C1 = D6C2 with the sisson choke that sits on the manifold I measured the base on my spare Desoto carter the E6S3 the base from side to side is 3 3/4 the spare approx. for the bolts holes is approx. 3 inches center to center. This might be different for the ply since the Desoto had the bigger engine. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
