Prime Master Cylinder without Bench Bleeding
FlashBuddy posted a topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
It would seem my mc has lost its prime. I filled it up and can't get pedal pressure. Was bleeding rear wheel cylinder, still open with tube to jar. How am I going to get the fluid pumping again so I can get back to bleeding my brakes? -

There you go @Ralph Pearce, it's all your fault. I don't know what the solution is going to be. Don't drive on hot days? Add some venting? Don't carry large loads down long hills? Good luck! My brake linings are bonded too. I'm going to open 'em all up and see if they are still attached

I call it the Walmart Effect. Suppliers needing to get the price down for Walmart results in sneaky changes to products. Take the typical Walmart lawnmower. Rubber wheels replaced with plastic, pull cord 5 inches shorter, push bar 8 inches shorter. Shampoo, cream rinse and hand lotions in pump bottles now using skinnier springs that have difficulty returning the pump to its uppermost position. My recent wheel cylinders purchase netted me lighter castings; less steel and more ??? As long as they can hold up under the pressures and mechanical forces involved I'm cool with them, but the machining being off center and incomplete is not cool. To @Todd B's point, Takata air bags are made in Japan, aren't they? I see Kim Jong-Un is meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping - probably to discuss quality control

Wheel Cylinder Counseling & Advice Needed

Just got off the phone with Alex over at OldMoparts.com. Where's Andy?! He's shipping out a replacement -
@palmersparts, the trailer had two axels, lots of rust on the bed sheets and no brakes. 1k. I passed on it. I was going to offer $100.00 and $100/mo rent to keep it there and give me access to get it running, driving and stopping. Just a thought. Oh, my wife isn't going to like this idea. Probably better to trailer it home, register and insure it and park on the curb.

Homer Alaska?! I hitchhiked there from Santa Cruz CA in the late 70's. Worked at the shrimp factory on the spit. Lived on the spit. High tide was a bitch.

Yeah, I tried to buy the sun visor for my truck and Larry said "I stays with the car". He was adamant on that. Funny thing was he had a Frazer. Never heard or saw one of those before wouldn't sell the visor on that one either. Frazer? I'll have to Google that one.

Yes, there is a title. I pulled on the fan blade, wouldn't budge. But then, I'm kinda skinny

Out for a Sunday drive when I spotted a trailer for sale in a farmer's field. I've been looking to buy one so I could drag my '50 B2B out to CA for the BBQ. Actually I was hoping somebody nearby would offer to loan me one but no offers so far. That not withstanding, farmer Larry came down the drive in his golf cart, had to be pushing 80. Not the golf cart, rather Larry For some odd reason I asked Larry if he had any old Dodges laying around. "Sure, follow me" was his reply. Just around the travel trailer and down from the bus was a few rotting goodies, one of which was a 50-is Plymouth Cranbrook. It was complete too. Even had the sun visor stashed in the back seat. I looked her over pretty good. Farmer Larry said he'd let me have her for 1500.00, today and today only. Well, the sun is still up and I 'm feeling like I should head back over there. Have you ever had that feeling? Larry said she belonged to the Walden postmaster who had bought it new and was a daily driver until he passed away Colorado is famous for bone dry conditions and Walden Colorado, at 8,099 feet is drier than most places out here. This Cranbrook has only minor surface rust. Trouble is I have no room to keep it and rotting interiors freak me out. Oh, no budget either. Roxanne is taking up all my spare nickels and dimes. OK, feast your eyes:

Wheel Cylinder Counseling & Advice Needed

Yeah, the other upper cylinder is machined clean to a nice mating surface. Hey, do you think that washer dent matters? Should I go out and buy a couple new copper washers? -

Thanks guys. I'll give Andy a call in the AM. Really wanted to get back on the road this weekend Another thought was to get the old ones sleeved. You can tell by the feel of them they are heavy duty; well, heavy for sure. Can any machine shop do that or do I need a specialist? -

If you look close you may notice that the part was not machined where the copper washer can seat and seal. At least that was my take. Notice too that the washer has a kink across where it couldn't completely seat and seal. I wonder if JB Weld could act as a seat to seal against or as a seal itsself? -
Puddles of brake fluid under both rears suggested I take a look in there. Look what I found. What an oily mess. I had questions... New brake cylinders, refurbish or sleeve? I bought new rear sets from Andy Bernbaum's Old Mopar Parts. YIKES! Brake fluid everywhere. It looks like the left top rear might be defective. Am I missing something? Ideas on stopping the leaking?

I got so excited at 8k; US but 6500? That pile of junk ain't got nuthin' on Roxanne. FWIW My dash lights work too, and I only paid 4500 delivered. Let my experience be your guide. Honestly, I would have paid 6k

You can contact Reg Evans (see above). I understand his templates are full sized already cut to actual size paper and include kick panels, door panels, back of cab (2 piece) and headliner (2 piece) - for a very reasonable low low cost. I have a 1950 B2B with intact kick panels, back panels and door panels, though they are in terrible condition. I could take them out and trace out some patterns, but think it would be pretty involved to convert to a printable file (pdf). Don't think I'll be doing that any time soon

Oh nooooo! Seriously, sent at 9:40 am and didn't bounce back I'll PM you.

I've emailed Reg and will report back if I get a reply. <thumbsup>
