  1. I think Eddie the lizard was one of those. My friends 4yo who lived with me at the time named his pet after me. how kind..............
  2. Pete we have 3 stock 218 OD equiped cars with 3.90 rear ends. That seems to be the way to go. One is a 50 4dr like yours one is a 51 conv that ways 600lbs over a non conv and one is my 51 club coupe. Don't have as much data as you have but we have driven these cars to the WI dells and the conv to the black hills and to peoria IL. Neither of those ODs were even opened up. The one in the 50 went right from the junkyard into the car. The 51 one was in a running 52 that was parted out to save the convert.
  3. Ya that's a whole nother issue. How good are the rest of the bearings in this thing going to be. Bad cam bearings=bad oil pressure. Certainly something fun to play around with. And then if I do get it going I can build a ratrod 40 ply pickup
  4. Only thing I've ever heard people having issues with is the shift linkage on the side. One of those is on my possibilities list for a tranny swap too.
  5. So as you guys saw I got a parts car. Actually sharing it with Mike. Anyway I believe he has enough flatheads that I can play with the one in the parts car. So according to the guy we bought it from it had low compression when they took it apart and then they found all the rings were bad. I looked at a couple of the pistons and they are certainly stuck but the pistons dont appear to be broken. Of course they would require close inspection. Now the rest of the engine-he says they smeared grease on everything inside to protect it and then the head and pan were reinstalled. So the engine has been well sealed. So basically am I crazy for thinking this thing might run with new rings and rod bearings?
  6. Thats why I said if I was thinking they were both 230 and it really did nothing for HP. The 55 one was probably just in better shape.
  7. Nice car but basically its a rod or a mild custom. Certainly not restored.
  8. If the 49 was a 218 and the 55 a 230 then using the 55 crank(and rods) would get you a little more HP.
  9. Ed as with anything else mechanical they can be broken or worn out. However the 2 that dad is running have never been rebuilt. They are junkyard/parts car fresh. Supposedly the one in my 51 was rebuilt by the guy who gave it to me. I have no proof other then his word and no knowledge of his version of "rebuilt" I certainly wouldn't be afraid to try one.
  10. I still don't know what it is but I was going to bet it was guaranteed to improve power or economy. Your picture looks like that guess would be right.
  11. The basic shell could go to the scrap heap but I'd hate to send the doors hood etc there. I also have no need for 4dr doors or a 4th hood! I really dont know that I'd even need a spare set of fenders either. I could work on getting these fixed up and primered over the winter though.
  12. That is what I meant-I was just being lazy and didn't type it out!
  13. It does happen though. My bro-in-law went to my sisters work to pickup her car. Used the key to open the door and got in. Then realized their buick doesn't have a sunroof. Parked at her work was another tan century with the same door key! Good score on the lock. I've been trying to get one and this weekend may buy a whole parts car which would give me locks that have a key!
  14. Reg weren't they IRS too? I think they had that to keep the floor inside lower and flatter
  15. Ok talked to the guy last night again. He has a couple others interested in some parts and may just part it out. I am going to call him back tonight and let him know for sure either way if I want it or not. I'm leaning towards a purchase I just haven't figured out what to do with the basic shell and 4doors.
  16. Shel pretty sure my 48 had hex set screws in it. My 46 pickup had flat like your picture and its really messed up! Did you buy the door lock then?
  17. http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=5949 thats the thread with some info on the truck side. whatever you do don't put the big BB in the small hole! TRUST me on that one.
  18. Ford trucks in the late 30s and 40s had batteries under the hood on the firewall. I wonder if a repro ford tray would let you mount it on the firewall?
  19. I think over on the truck side i just gave some good info to someone over there. The smaller BB is the one under the clip under the accelerator pump.
  20. Allen what kind of vehicle do you have? Why are you moving the battery?
  21. If they are the same length and have the same taper on the drum end.
  22. Why wouldn't it fit? If the splines are different you just change the side gears
  23. I had a guy follow me once when I was going home in my pickup. Started getting a little creapy when I didn't recognize the car and he followed me all the way to my driveway.
  24. Fred you got me on that one. I've seen many that had 2 plugs like yours. Not sure what is up with that.
