49plymouthdotcom
I'm shopping around for leaf springs and saw that JC Whitney sells them. Anyone tried a set from them?
Normspeed
When I phoned them a few years ago about rear springs for my 53, they kinda went dumb. Might have been a bad phone rep but she told me they don't cover 53 Plymouths.
Tony Cipponeri
I had my old springs rearced and they are fine. Tony C
Young Ed
Espo springs and things are probably more expensive but we've used them in a few cars and it went perfect each time.
49plymouthdotcom
I had my old springs rearced and they are fine. Tony C One of mine is broken. When I phoned them a few years ago about rear springs for my 53, they kinda went dumb. Might have been a bad phone rep but she told me they don't cover 53 Plymouths. That's weird, when you do a car search, they show that they make the springs for that year. Espo springs and things are probably more expensive but we've used them in a few cars and it went perfect each time. Espo springs is where I plan on getting the front springs from. I see that Bernbaum has rear leaf springs.
bob_amos
JCWhitney is generally a go between for many parts. That being they show them on line or in a catalogue but they have them drop shipped from the supplier. My experience has been that those suppliers are major players and have quality products. Also, remember that Whitney has a 100% satisfaction guarantee and if you do not like what you get will return your money. I have used that option in the past on one item and the money was refunded with no questions asked. I'd give them a try. That rep was just someone to take numbers and place the order. They really don't have much knowledge. A local supplier would always be besy as you get instant gratification when you walk into their place of business. kevinanderson
I bought a set from them. They went on a '55 Chevy. No complaints at all. I'd recommend them.
49plymouthdotcom
I bought a set from them. They went on a '55 Chevy. No complaints at all. I'd recommend them. O.K. thanks. I guess with the 100% satisfaction guarantee + free shipping it's worth a look.
Don Coatney
Report your findings as others may follow. I bought the more expensive Esso springs and had good luck with them.
JohnS48plm
I've had ESPO springs on both of my P-15s and they fit and rode great.

49plymouthdotcom
I checked the status today. I ordered the leaf springs 07/22/2008 and they are expected to ship on 09/08/2008.
James_Douglas
I have used Eaton Detroit Springs (Opened 1937) and have been happy with them. They make their springs and can tell you the blueprint load and rate. In the case where HD springs were offered, they can tell you the load and rate of both the standard and HD so you can pick what you want. I just went to the page where you add them to your cart. It says: Will ship in 7 to 10 days. Good thing this isn't holding my project up...yet. Glad I didn't order a kidney. 49plymouthdotcom
Here is the response from customer service: In reviewing your order I found that the item is currently on back order because there are not enough available in the warehouse. At this time I do not have an estimated time of arrival to when we expect these items in. I'm sorry for the delay and inconvenience. Website still says will ship in 7 to 10 days. oldmopar
With a reply like that I think it will be a while until they ship.
49plymouthdotcom
JC Whitney gets the springs from John R Spring out of Michigan. John R Spring imports them from overseas. Apparently they are good quality, just not in stock very often. I don't understand why JC Whitney says they will ship in 7-10 days when they actually don't have any in stock and have no idea when they may be in stock. Since I don't need them yet, I'll wait this out...for a while anyway. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=32206
49plymouthdotcom
The order status page now says "In stock and reserved". The charge on my card went through today too. Hopefully it will be worth the wait. Just in time too. I'll just need to get some ubolts for the rear and I'll be ready to assemble when they arrive. Young Ed
Do you need longer ones for lowering or just standard size ones?
49plymouthdotcom
Do you need longer ones for lowering or just standard size ones? I need longer ones. I plan on going to Kramer Spring and getting the ubolts, rear wheel bearings pressed on and having them do my kingpins too.
Young Ed
Sounds like a good plan. I think they are the ones who pressed the straight axle for dads truck back into straightness. I think it had hit a few too many stumps
