Robin (UK) Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 PLEASE NOTE THAT I HAVE NOW RECEIVED A FULL REFUND FROM RODGER AND I HAVE THEREFORE EDITED THIS POST. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR SUPPORT. ROBIN (16th August) Guys, It makes me really sad to write this, because up to now I've had nothing but good experiences from all my correspondence and dealings with members of this magnificent Forum. Two months ago I was looking for an 802 Radio. A Forum member sent me a PM to say he had a restored 602. It wasn't exactly what I wanted, but we agreed a price (not particularly cheap) and I sent him the money. After that he wrote to say that it was actually a Mopar 800. Looking into it, I found that the front of the 800 has a different finish, not suitable for a P15 dash, so I asked him for a refund. That was promised but I have waited a month and nothing has been sent. He won't reply to email, so I guess he's planning to keep the money as compensation for all the 'trouble' I must have put him through. Oh well - I guess he must need that cash badly. I hope he can sleep at night. Just wanted to warn you that if anyone offers a Mopar 800 radio, you should proceed with caution!!! Quote
knighthawk Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 yup , gone are the days when a deal is made, by 'taking your word for it' , and / or a handshake....... now days when you do offer to do that (handshake deal) people give ya a real funny look . Sold my house in Wisconsin about 12 years ago to a guy driving 'cross country from California, on a handshake deal. Never heard from the guy for about 4 months,, then sent me the money, and said the moving company was on it's way . I don't think I would do that today. Quote
greg g Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 It would be nice to believe that everyone participating in this community were persons of character. I have been associated with the group since 01 or 02 and there have been only 1 or 2 other episodes where some acted selfishly or dishonestly. This was one of the few places on the web where you could say that. I would hope that the seller will see these posts, and do the right thing, If that doesn't happen soon, that person should be outed and banned from participation. Hope it works out both in terms of finances and character. Quote
Normspeed Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 I'm with Greg on that. If the seller is still on the forum, they should take heed of this, and if the situation doesn't get resolved, I would sure appreciate knowing who the culprit is, so I can avoid dealing with them. Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 Robin; Makes you sad to write this and me sad to read this. I have an 802 in really bad shape. Needs electronic repairs and cosmetic improvements. Has no knobs etc. However I will make arraingments to send it to you at my expense if it will help your cause. And thanks again for the blue dot lens you sent me. I have upgraded to LED lights but I did send the blue dot to another forum member. Quote
Captain Neon Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 I recently got a good deal on two 802 radios for parts. One is being gutted to turn into an AM/FM/aux radio. With Don's radio and the left over parts from my radios, I think my radio guy in Minnesota could restore a nice radio for you. I am disappointed to hear about anyone getting taken advantage of, esp. people I consider myself friendly with. At the very least, I can request my left-over parts and send them to you. Quote
Allan Faust Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 Robin, If I had one I'd send it to ya.... I've only got 2 836's.... Makes me feel ashamed to know that one of us did this.... and personally, I'd like to know who it is too, to make sure that he is on my ignore list should gtk not throw his butt off the board.... which is what he truly deserves. Rodney Bullock Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 You see, you could never really lose anything here, there is always someone that is willing to restore the reputation of this forum. I kid Don and alot of the others alot however they are the "genuine article' The integrity of the forum is intact this is why we give honest descriptions of cars and parts because it's what we do automatically. So Robin everything will be OK:) chin up, hip hip and all that sort of stuff;) Quote
Olddaddy Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 Well, it happens. While this is hands down the best forum online there is always the possibility that not everyone is at the same level of honesty and integrity. I agree that GTK should remove him if he does not respond to your request for a refund. Personally I think an open letter to him on this forum is reasonable. You have stated your position clearly without rancor and he should reply in like kind. This allows everyone in the community to decide for themselves where the truth in the situation lies. I suspect it is with you having dealt with you directly myself. In any case I hope you end up with your money and our other friend ends up doing the right thing. That sort of honest behavior is the fundamental basis of this community. I'd be happy to know off forum who it is so I can avoid a siimlar situation if you are comfortable with that option. You have my email, or pm me. Quote
dirty dan Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 Sorry about your problem. I have run into the same sort of problem on a Corvette forum over a headlight assembly. I lost about $200.00 on that deal. I also would like to know who was less than honest with you on this forum. I've had a couple of guys offer parts for sale via PM, and I'd like to think I can trust all of you. Quote
mackster Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 I don't think the name should be posted openly. We have had at least one instance of name being posted of someone that did not pay for something that was sent to them. It really wasn't very pleasant for anyone involved. This appears to be more than just a misunderstanding, but my thoughts are that if someone wants to know who it is, it should be by PM, unless GTK deems otherwise. Oh, and by the way, it wasn't me:D I believe everyone that has gotten anything from me, free, or at a reasonable cost, is happy. I doubt if it is a "real forum member", at least not one that actually contributes to the forum. There are a bunch of names in the list that are way less than active. It wasn't me either! we should all state if it wasn't us, that way, we weed out the guilty party without mentioning his name. can it be he is ill? or worst yet DEAD! who knows... But I feel your pain. I have had many dealings with forum members here and happy to say it has always been more than perfect. but I had my bad dealings before with other forums. . . Quote

greg g Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 I think many of us have already spent money not yet earned, if that is the case everyone should be able to empathize if the money was spend upon reciept. If that's the case just be honest about it and make a plan to return it as soon as possible. Quote
knighthawk Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 I agree with Shelbizzy and Mackster, I think we should all say if '' it wasn't me'' !!! If nothing else, it'll get his (or her) attention,,,then maybe he'll make it right......... Quote
Niel Hoback Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 Time to jump in here and say, "it wasn't me". I would like to know who it was though, just because I think someone that would do a thing like that needs some public embarrasment, at the very least. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 I just remembered, I got my radio from a forum member here:) I don't know who it was( if your out there I'm sorry I just don't remember) I know I did not pay alot for the radio and I got it very quick. I don't know if I sent the money first or what, I do remember that they had a convertible or it came out of one. I don't know the difference between a 802,602 ,835 I know that this person knew what I needed and sent it. I was so green then you could have taken cool advantage of me however he did not. This is why this situation makes me very sad. Oh by the way wasen't me! I don't think:o Quote
NatesSedan Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 Sorry to hear that Robin. Must be tougher for you to find parts over there to begin with then throw shipping charges on it and I am sure its crazy. I too have faith in the forum as witnessed by the generosity of those in this thread alone. Sorry it happened here but at least its still not the HAMB. Maybe something happened to the member and it will work itself out. I am a half full kind of guy! Best Wishes, Nate Quote
Oldguy48 Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 It was not me, but I believe whoever it was should make amends to Robin immediately. Anyone who would deliberately rip off a fellow forum member does not deserve to be a member of this forum. At any rate, if this is not resolved, apparently this rogue member has no conscience. Quote
james curl Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 Well I've given away parts but never sold any unless asking the recipient to pay the freight is selling. I only have one radio and it's a Motorola remote with cable driven head. I always seen to buy stuff and never sell anything so it was not I. Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 Not Me!! I also believe who ever it was should make amends to Robin, NOW!!! Dennis:D Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 Here is a guy who I bought oft my radio from and he is a square shooter. He rebuilds them and is from Grant Pass Oregon. I would give him an e-mail and see what he could do for you-Jon Dalton, Barry radiodoc@rvi.net Quote
Frank Blackstone Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 Robin For the sake of restoring Anglo-American relations and maybe your faith in human nature to be basically good let me offer this. I have all the tubes you will need to get a radio running and several radios that repairable you may have just for the price of shipping. Let me know if they will be useful to you. Sorry for your loss, Frank Quote

Sounds like a good contact. Robin for what its worth if you contact this guy and you would like for me to drop off, pic up, mail, or whatever I would be glad to help. Quote
Allan Faust Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 One thing I didn't mention in my message earlier was.... "wasn't me".... but that is not my main reason for writing this message... mainly to say that after reading the messages posted to date, this really is what this forum is about.... helping out, doing what they can for one another, etc... And for the person that did this... I'm someone that has had financial problems in the past, and delays for payment due to unexpected problems... do the right thing, and do what I do if something like that happens.... send an email, explaining truthfully what is going on.... if there truly is a problem...no news is what is hurting you and everyone now.... most people will accept the truth and a short delay, and understand.... but saying and doing nothing will just drive you in deeper....
