Mopar Clock info wanted

Does anyone know whether the clocks used in 40's Mopars are essentially the same, ie , I have a 41 Plymouth and ideally would like to get a clock from a 41 plymouth to put in the dash, but have seen clocks and dashboard pics on the net for later 40's Mopars that do appear to have a rectangular style clock......has anyone had the chance to compare whether they all are the same size?......I have a nice chromed "boring" blockoff plate where the clock should go and am curious about what options I might have.......thanks, andyd

Clocks for the 41 42, and the P-15's, 1946 to early 1949 are in size, pretty close.

The 1941 Dash clock, I would say is the hardest to find. It is a slight bit taller than the P-15 clocks, and has a three dimentional look to it. Also, it is two tone gold/tan color with a thin, dark brown minute hand, and a wide red hour hand.

The numbers on the face exactly match the numbers on the speedometer. Quite a nice looking time piece if you ask me!

The 42 Plymouth clock is the exact same size as the P-15 clock, but has a gold foil background. The P-15 clock is basically black faced with white hands and numbers.

At this time, I do have an original 1941 Plymouth clock for sale, along with several 42's and 4 or 5 P-15 clocks.

If you are interested in the 41 clock, drop me a line, I would be happy to send photos and price (not cheap).

Any of those 42 or p15 clocks kinda beat up? I have one for my car but the previous owner broke the mounting tab off! Been kinda keeping my eye open for a parts clock.

Sorry about the mis-information on the color of the P-15 clock. My old eyes must be failing me again!

All five of the P-15 clocks I currently own look to be black under house lights. The brown must be really, really dark!

All of the P-15 (5) clocks, and the P-14 (2) clocks are cosmetically very, very nice.

I wish that I could post a couple of photos!

Again, if anyone would like to take on this challenge for me, I would send them several pictures to choose from...

Ed, since it would not show on the backside of the dash, why couldn't you

take a large washer, length of stiff wire, or some other item to lap over the edge of your clock -- secured by the mounting screw.

And, the others are correct about differing sizes of old Mopar clocks. The P15 clock is shorter and wider than others,

and does not have a number 6 at the bottom.....as the stem goes into it there.

Attached is a picture of the 41 Dodge and Plymouth clocks.

I was in a yard a couple of years ago, and found a 41 Plymouth 2 door with a P-15 clock in the dash. It had a little filler (you can see it at the top of the clock) piece to make up the difference is size. I had the clock cleaned and installed it in my car (sorry about the dust in the picture). It keeps perfect time. Lee

Well, here goes nothing!

I am going to attempt to post two photos. One of my P-15 clocks, and one of the 1941 Plymouth clock that are for sale. Since I took the photo of the P-15 clocks, two have been sold, so I only have five.

Now lets see if I can get this done....

... because each of the five P15 clocks I currently have and all those I've had in the past are definitely black with white numerals. They match the black and white theme of the speedo and gauges.

The 40's Mopar clocks are not interchangeable. Especially, Plymouth clocks. If you want a clock, it has to be a Plymouth clock. The Dodge, Chrysler and DeSoto clocks are too tall to fit the Plymouth dash opening. Also, the clocks for Chrysler and DeSoto have different mounting brackets on them, so they are not really interchangeable either. Not sure what that clock on ebay is off of but it's not 42 - 48 Plymouth. As mentioned, early 40's Plymouth has a lighter (goldish color face). P15 clocks are not black, they are dark brown.[/quote']

mine is black dial also..think Norm forgeot he had on the rose colored glasses thus the thinking it is brownish..

Hum, not sure if I opened the photos up to the largest size or not. Guess that I was too excited to see if they even showed up at all!

Thanks for the offer of additional pics......the ones you posted will do fine.

Usually when a thumbnail size is posted, you can click on them and they

will become a bit larger. Just takes time and practice. I still don't know

a lot of things that can be done. Have figured out a few that seem to

work.

Since we're on the subject of clocks - it my younger, stoopider days I bought this clock on the bay - the guy said it was for a 48 Plymouth - it isn't.
