Young Ed Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 Its about 700 miles for me. My room is reserved and I'm sure I'll be taking lots of pictures. There are a few other guys in our plymouth club that are planning on going too. Paint job or not I should be in my 48. We'll probably split the driving into 2 days. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 If you have seen the agenda found thru the POC site....they plan to so some type preliminaries on Thursday; dig up the car Friday - they will also show the dig on a screen in the convention center, then I guess take the car there to display. Not sure after that. Their schedule: Thursday, June 14, 2007 Possible close-up viewing of the excavation site in the evening. Friday, June 15, 2007 Exhumation of the shrouded 1957 Plymouth to be shown via closed circuit TV inside the Tulsa Convention Center. Exact time TBA (probably sometime between Noon & 3 PM) Friday, June 15, 2007 Unveiling of the 1957 Plymouth and the other contents of the time capsule during an evening presentation at the Tulsa Convention Center. Saturday, June 16, 2007 1957 Plymouth will be on display along with other vehicles and items from Tulsa’s history in exhibit halls at the Tulsa Convention Center. The committee is also working on locating areas for parking vintage vehicles for public display in the downtown area w/ shuttle buses to and from the Convention Center. Quote
Don Coatney Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 I have submitted a vacation request for the dates involved. If things work I will be there. I have not made reservations but will do so upon vacation confirmation. My route will be running side roads paralleling Interstate 40. Anyone between Nashville and Tulsa interested in a convoy let me know. Looks like about a 700 mile trip for me. Will most likely leave Wednesday and spend the night somewhere in Arkansas then continue to Tulsa on Thursday. Will return home Sunday and possibly Monday. Quote
Johnny S Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 I made reservations at the Double Tree. My brother-in-law and another gearhead will be driving in from Iowa. I'm encouraging him to drive his 61 Savoy. A buddy and I are coming down from Colorado. About 750 miles each way for us as well. I'm hoping to bring Aunt Margaret up to distance driving snuff by then. Don't have a route yet but it will probably be partially across southern Nebraska and then south through Kansas. Quote
jd52cranbrook Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 I plan on being there a week. I have friends from the Prowler Club that will be there too. Should be fun. Quote
1949P17BC Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 All, I was planning on attending, a quick 500 mile run from St. Louis to Tulsa on old 66, Just recieved confirmation I will be attending a week long sales conferance, Grhh, work keeps getting in the way. Have fun Quote
blueskies Posted January 19, 2007 Author Report Posted January 19, 2007 I've been looking at the map, thinking about a route for the trip. Here's a preliminary stab at it. It's 1,550 miles for me, one way. The quickest way would be three 500+ mile days to get there, and another three to get back home, and three nights in Tulsa. Anyone here along this route that might be going to Tulsa too? It would be great to connect for a caravan of old plymouths. Pete Quote
Young Ed Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 Pete you just caught my probable route on the right edge. Looks like 35 leads almost all the way there. May have to cut off of it at Kansas city to avoid going too far west. Quote
James_Douglas Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 For me, it would be a long (1700 mile one way) hot trip out US 40 in the summer! James Quote
RobertKB Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 Too far for me to travel but sure am looking forward to seeing it happen and know lots of you guys will post pictures. I'm guessing the car will be in good shape. As long as all seals held on the tomb site and the cosmoline it was coated with did its job, I think someone is gonna get a pristine '57. Hey, they could sell it to the no-brainers at Barrett-Jackson for a couple of million. It has "provenance". Even if rusty they might get a couple of hundred thousand from the people with more money than sense! Quote

Pete Pete; On my jaunt to Northern Ohio and Indiana last summer I did the return trip home (over 500 miles) in one day. I made three major stops that day (aside from fuel and relief) to visit the grandkids in Fort Wayme, Bob VanBuskirk in Naptown, and a stop to find the toombstone of my G Grandfather in southern Indiana. Had I not made those stops I could have done an additional 200 miles. You could possibly squeez your trip to two days coming and going. Might be too big of a sacrifice for you with the BIG RACE and all! Quote
Gary Manes Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 I am in the process of trying to sell my house and move to Mexico City. However, if I am here I plan to be there. I watched it on "local" TV when it was placed in the vault. Later I had a 1957 "Town Sedan", aka four door hard top, the same color. So, I have definitely got an interest in seeing it--again. Quote
Young Ed Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 Its starting to get some attention. We made CNN! http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/01/23/buried.car.ap/index.html Quote
James_Douglas Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 Gary..."...and move to Mexico City"... Is this work related, or do you have family down there ? James Quote
vanbuskirk Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Doubletree is full for Friday June 15. Is there a consensus alternative hotel? Bob Quote
Gary Manes Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 James, I went to summer school in Mexico City between my junior and senior years in college. I met a girl there. We dated all summer and continued to communicate through December 1965 when I was planning a trip down to see her over Christmas break while I was in the Army. Her mother decided that things were getting too serious, and sent her to France to get her away from me. When I came back from overseas Mexico had changed phone systems, and I was not able to communicate with her further because in addition to not knowing the "new" phone number the maid was to destroy any letters that might arrive. Moving ahead to the summer of 2007--After periodically searching the internet for over eight years trying to find her; I found two web sites with her maiden name. One had her entire address, as well as her home and cell phone numbers. January 11th we were married, and plan to live in Mexico City or a small town just south called Cocoyoc. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 that is determination....congrats... Quote
Young Ed Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Ah the internet what a wonderful place. Good or bad there's nothing it can't do! Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Nevermind I'm in!!! The hangup was all the cheap non smoking rooms are gone. So I got a cheap room and I'll just have to deal with it being a little stinky. The important part is I can go now!!! Ed Don't mean to rain on your parade, but. Keep the reservation you have and look for another one with a non smoking room available, even if it's a few miles outside of Tulsa. Yep, you heard that from me, a smoker. Even I can't stand being in a smoking motel room. That's because in most better motels you can't open the windows and that stale smoke will gag even the smoker. We get non smoking rooms now. If I want to smoke I just go outside. For the record I'm not going to Tulsa, will watch it on the TV news coverage and use my vacation for something else. Hope you guys have a good time out there. Quote
Young Ed Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 I'm not too worried about it. I've been stuck in smoking rooms before and survived. I would think it would be better in a nicer hotel because they would clean more. The last one was in a really cheap motel that was pretty bad but even that one didn't smell too horribly. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Ed, We usually stay in places like the Hampton Inns and Holiday Inn Express when we travel on a road trip. Most of those are pretty new and they are always clean. The problem is the air conditioner and heater filters. The smoke gets into them and you can't get that out unless you change filters. Also into the carpets and bedding such as mattress. Last year when we went to Chattonooga, TN they only had two rooms left. One on the first floor and one on the second floor. Was a new Hampton Inn. We took the one on the first floor. Opened the door to the room and almost fell over. It was a smoking room. Luckily, no one had taken the other room (non smoking) so we switched rooms. Once in Springfield, IL the room was so bad we bought some Frebreeze and sprayed the room ourself. Still didn't help, that was a miserable night. After that is when we started getting the non smoking rooms. I think someone must have been chain smoking cigars in that room it was so bad. Quote
blueskies Posted February 1, 2007 Author Report Posted February 1, 2007 I found this thread over on the forward look site, with a PDF of the Tulsarama Unearthing shedule and registration. If you want to participate in the open car show portion of the event, you must send in your registration by April 15th. Download the PDF and print your copy of the registration to send in. Tickets to the unearthing will apparently be available online as stated in the brochure, but I couldn't find them as of today... Pete Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 I was lookiing at that earlier tonite. Printed off the registration form. Seems they dig it up Fri at noon. Unveil it in convention center 6:30 pm....admission is $5 or $10 depending where you want to be. $20 registration fee for the car show. When and where would folks from this group want to meet to say "hi".?? Something to think about......not all belong to the POC. Quote
blueskies Posted February 8, 2007 Author Report Posted February 8, 2007 Back to the top... I've also added a new page to my website for the Tulsa Trip. I'll be updating it with info and photos from the journey, but for now it's just a couple of links, etc. Also added a link the Frapper map on the main page of my site, so other's who don't visit this forum might find it easier.
