David Maxwell Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 ...for the POC Spring National in Santa Maria this May. Their is concern regarding the type of movie that would be shown. I was thinking of contacting the theatre owner to request a special feature for the event. Perhpas a `50's Sci-Fi???? Any other thoughts? Quote
Normspeed Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 50's sci fi is always fun. I'm partial to "The Blob", where Steve McQueen drives a P24 vert. Another thought is, some of those 40-s 50-s B&W movies that are loaded with old tin. Or, maybe Robert Mitchum in Thunder Road....? Quote
Young Ed Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 The back to the 50s show here always shows 2 for drive in night. One modern and then American Graffeti for the other. Quote
Normspeed Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 Hmmm, must be a sign of the aging process where we are even slightly concerned with what's going on up on the screen. Another fun Drive In movie might be CARS. Quote
David Maxwell Posted December 4, 2006 Author Report Posted December 4, 2006 ...keep `em coming. Quote
greg g Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 Thunder Road, Rebel Without a Cause, The Wild Bunch, Bullet, Vanishing Point, Hot Rod, Hot Rod Girl. Duel, Tucker The Man and His Dream, Cannonball Run, and Its a Mad Mad Mad Mad World. Quote
Young Ed Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 Tucker is a great suggestion. I love that movie. I've read the indomitable tin goose a few times too. Its great also. Quote
bob_amos Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 Interesting. In another e-mail sent to David I suggested The Blob and Margie, my better half suggested Tucker.. Good to see that others think like we do. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 How a bout a " My mother the car" marathon. I would drive over to the west coast for that one! Quote
Normspeed Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 LOL Rodney. Classic stuff. C'mon out, hey that coupe will run for at least another 2 weeks right? That's a trip to CA and home again. Crash at Norm's Speed Shop. Quote
Justin Slingsby Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 Here are some I would see at a drive in at the drop of a hat... The Buddy Holly Story Ed Wood The Choppers The Getaway The Hustler Some Like it Hot The Wild One Animal House Mad Max Rebel Without a Cause The Blues Brothers Christine The French Connection The Great Escape Gumball Rally Stand by Me The Thomas Crown Affair Vanishing Point Two Lane Blacktop Quote
David Maxwell Posted December 7, 2006 Author Report Posted December 7, 2006 Several titles were mentioned multiple times, so those will receive extra attention. I will run the list by the theatre owner and see what he thinks. Thanks for all the great input!!! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 What happened to Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry? Must be old or something as I have a goodly portion of that list in my collection. One other movie with some great car scenes is "Fear is the Key"..Barry Newman again...have not been able to get that in a format for our region... Quote
Reg Evans Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 "The Big Wheel" Mickey Rooney...1949 Lots of shop scenes. Restless and reckless, All grown up, Rooney stars as Billy Coy, the son of a famous Indianapolis 500 race car driver who died in a fiery crash in the last laps of the race. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 Just saw dirty mary, crazy larry for the first time. Very corky movie I enjoyed it surprizing ending. Remember that Burt Renolds movie where he had a special buick or olds about a 1955 and he would rob the gas stations company that he used to work for, pre Smokey and the bandit. Don't forget the Don Johnson movie "the hot spot" he drives a Studebaker hawk circa 1960 half way though the movie somehow he blew the exhaust donut and you could hear the system. Now that's a movie with some perks! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 WW and the Dixie Dance Kings...Burt was at his best in that one..rob the stores and give cash to the little guy...always got a big head start on the law... Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 I have been collecting these movies in an "as I find them basis"... Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry Vanishing Point Bullit Italian Job (original) Cobra American Graffiti... Mad Maxx Road Warrior Blues Brothers Blues Bro. 2000 Christine plus a few more goodies...Walter Matheau in "Charlie Varrick" where Joe Don Baker drives a big Chrysler with top end unlimited.. Quote
