I don't know what your available time frame on the mainland is, but I think there is more work needed than can be accomplished in a short period of time.  You may   instead want to get done what you can and ship it, foregoing that backroads trip if it isn't safe for you or others on the road.

I bought this coupe in Minnesota with a goal to ship and restore it in Hawaii.

This is extreme ?

Minnesota, in general, is probably not a good place to buy classic cars (unless they were garaged 100% of winters, or were originally from a different state). Minnesotans buy their cars from the south... How much is shipping to Hawaii going to be? Are you sure it is going to be worthwhile to fix that, rather than saving some money for one in good condition to begin with? This is a parts donor (maybe). Unless this particular car is rare, or has unique sentimental value to you, I would not touch it :(

I lived in Minnesota for 3 1/2 years, except for the Summers, when I went back home to Oklahoma.  Honestly, I had never seen the type of serious rust out anywhere I'd ever been, until Minnesota.  Now I live in Ohio, and it's nearly as bad here.  Have a friend here who hauls in old cars from the Dakotas, mostly ND.  Those are pretty solid cars, actually. Never been to ND, so don't know why that's so different from MN.

Sorry. Had not see the whole car, of course, but by the look of those floors this car will probably need everything. It is rather unlikely to be a quick fix to drive around. Reminds me of my first truly antique project 58 Cadillac, a while ago. Came from southern MN, you betcha... ? The car was in extremely poor shape, but I did not know how to tell it at the time. Rockers and everything were gone, the frame was flaking, I did manage to get it running, fairly quickly... And then had to sell it for unrelated reasons. And I sure am very glad I did. We live and learn :)

You can fix virtually anything, don't get me wrong here. Whether or not it will be worth your time and effort is for you to decide.

No worries, I don’t live for someone’s approval and nothing easy is worth doing. Still, it’s nice to hear positive thoughts rather than negativity. I actually was wondering of if there’s a cheaper parts on some secret website ( besides eBay , rock auto etc) not exactly asking for approval… thank you for your input regardless

You asked about getting parts cheaper........this might help.........I had a 1941 Plymouth Coupe 2007 to 2013....it was a factory RHD Detroit built car, exported to south Africa & assembled there........ It had been imported into Australia in the 1980's I think and given a reasonable restoration...........I am a hot rodder, have had my 1940 Oz Dodge sedan since 1971, hot rodded since 1973, 318 V8, 4 wheel discs, basically all work done by me..........anyway when I bought the 41 Plymouth it was stock except for being 12 volt electrics, I lowered it, installed the chrome smoothie wheels & Coker whitewalls and chased up an ex airport tug 230 engine.......I decided to build the 230 & install it in the 41 Plymouth.............I ended up getting engine parts from all over the world including the USA and TURKEY, yes TURKEY as Chrysler had their Middle East Distribution Centre there at one stage and there were guys selling parts from there at very cheap prices,,,,,,,,,were they for 1941 Plymouths?..........NO.........but I used to do ebay searches not only for 1941 Plymouth parts but also widened the search to include the late 50's as I knew that the 230 was used up to 1959 at least in cars...........I ended up getting bearings, pistons, rings, timing chain & gears, oil pump, lifters, valves & valve springs mostly from these guys in Turkey for less than 1/2 what the cost was in the USA and all the parts without exception were name brand parts in the original boxes.......what I am saying is investigate what parts you need and what interchange applies to these parts then widened your search to include these areas..........you may want a certain Plymouth part but check whether it was also used on Dodges or even the occaisonal DeSoto or Chrysler............anyway thats my 2 Oz cents worth........oh..........and like a dope I sold the 1941 Plymouth tho' I still have the 1940 Dodge Sedan after 52 years next month............Andy Douglas

The engine in the car is a 51 or later with the internal bypass thermostat housing and six blade fan. I would need the serial number on the engine to determine if it’s a 218 or 230. There is a 48 Plymouth Business Coupe in the classified ads on this site. The nice thing about the business coupe, is that it is all flat glass.  Rick D.
