'51 Plymouth Opening In Front Door Jamb

Can anyone tell me what the opening in the door jamb (circled in red in photo) is for?  Not my car, owner does not know.

Most likely a dome light switch.

I went out to my 51 Plymouth and took a picture, it's where the serial number tag goes.  On the pass side there is a round blank off plate screwed on there.  I don't have an interior light, FWIW.

my 51 cranbrook has the serial number tag like in snipers photo above. The passenger side has the dome lite switch as is in the photo by vintage6t above. The dome light is centered above the rear window. There is also a slide switch in the pillar between the front and rear doors on the drivers side(4 door car) that controls the dome light.

The passenger's side rectangular dome lamp switch opening went away in 1952 because the dome light switch was built into one of the hinge screws of the RF door.

I'm looking for a left side door switch for my '50 Windsor convertible. I have looked high and low for one but no luck. Anyone know where I might be able to find one?

I sourced a right side switch, the style that is one of the hinge bolts, from a pick a part yard and installed it in the left front so my dome lite comes on when drivers door is opened. 52 Cranbrook
