Chuckwp Posted December 16, 2022 Report Posted December 16, 2022 More questions on the 51 I am rewiring. Are the bulb sockets circled in the photo all just gauge illumination? I don't see any turn indicators when I shine light through so, I assume they did not exist? Thanks. Quote
Wood and Steel Posted December 16, 2022 Report Posted December 16, 2022 My '51 Cranbrook has a turn signal indicator on the lower left, and a headlight indicator on the lower right (looking at the dash from the front). The turn signal light is green, headlight is red. I assume it's original, but I don't know for sure. 1 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 16, 2022 Report Posted December 16, 2022 it is not shaped like an arrow on these models as compared to many other.....the lights are as mentioned by Wood and Steel to be just dots....of different colors.... Quote
rallyace Posted December 16, 2022 Report Posted December 16, 2022 Looking at the back of your panel, the top two circles are the illumination. The bottom left is the high beam indicator and the bottom right is the turn signal indicator. Now, one thing to understand, new #535 flasher units are electronic operation. They work on positive ground system but the flasher output for the indicator lamp has a diode in the circuit and it will not illuminate the indicator on a positive ground system. Quote

greg g Posted December 16, 2022 Report Posted December 16, 2022 Sometimes a good dusting after 70 years can brighten things up a bit too. Quote
Bryan G Posted December 17, 2022 Report Posted December 17, 2022 On my car I could barely see the red and green lights. I had the cluster apart for something else and found that the old plastic had rotted, as some is prone to do. I fished through my junkbox and found some indicator lamp lenses that fit the holes just right, and now I can see the turn indicator even during the day. Quote
Chuckwp Posted December 17, 2022 Author Report Posted December 17, 2022 I figured it out. Top two are illumination, bottom two are turn indicators. Thank you for all the help/replies! Quote
Rodney_Hamon Posted December 17, 2022 Report Posted December 17, 2022 My picture may be of no use but I looked at the back and saw no colored plastic for turn signal areas. Pretty bad shape this dash unit from a ‘51 cranbrook. Quote
