Bernbaum has a steering column and gear shift boot, black or brown, C-390AorB, $80. MoparPro has one for $129.50. Roberts are $80 also, A100A. It would be a project, for sure. I would cut a rubber gasket and put it under the boot, to seal it better than what you have.

Two well known vendors of MoPar sell that 1942-48 all MoPar cars steering column rubber boot on and off Ebay...

A gasket (as 6 foot box suggests), then either self-vulcanizing rubber tape wrapped around the column, with some sort of looser grommet or rubber hose (cut through on one side to get it on) around the shifter rod, which needs to be free to move.  Could also use black rubber silicone to shape it somewhat like the original.

Another option would be to construct a leather boot that could be stitched up (or laced) by hand after installation.  I think this would be the best looking option.  (With a flat rubber gasket underneath, to prevent water & dirt from coming up from the bottom as much as possible.)

I purchased the seal from Burmbaum and it should be in Monday. Installation appears to require a lot of disassembly of the shaft for steering and shifting. I am going to carefully cut the seal and slip  it over the two shafts. One once secured by the screws, use rubber cement to seal the cut.   Thoughts?

Years ago, i removed my seal and recoated it. I slit the seal to remove it, and coated it with tool handle dip.  Looks good enough from a distance.  I also did the door sills, but the tool dip has been peeling.

I haven't seen a complete deteriorated one, but I thought that there is a steel plate embedded in that piece.
