Bogging and distributor update

Recommended Posts

Got things fixed finally. Bogging was caused by a bad vacuum advance in the first dizzy. Lack of spark in second dizzy was a bad condenser (thanks for the tip Mr Adams). It’s a shame that brand new tune up parts are so hit or miss. I found one in my parts stash that says made in the USA so hopefully it lasts awhile. Thanks everyone for your help.

Congrats. That's how many of get it done. Trial and error. Best end result is when we study theory a little bit before, during or after the fix. Let it sink in. Then we retain it and become better troubleshooters!

I just updated my dizzy to the pertronix ignition and it was well worth the investment. The car is easier to start and it is much more responsive.

I know they aren’t for everyone but they are a good alternative to help keep them on the road.

I hear good and bad about pertronix here. Someday I just might. What do you recommend (item number etc) How does a stoopid little thing like a condensor leave you dead in the water. Cuz it can. (after all these years first thing I change is condensor)

If you go the Pertronix route and you have the semi auto trans make sure you search the threads on here. If you don’t add a resistor you’ll burn up the module. Mine worked three times. I’ll stick with points for now.
