Plymouthy Adams Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 the fact you are alive and posting is meaningful enough Quote
Normspeed Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 On a German car that would be the doppel stopzemfromfloppin. Not sure of the Mopar part name though. PS, welcome back Tim! Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 I think that's one of them there "dingelballs" in there. Quote
51 Fargo Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 Ah come on guys it,s a muffer bearing:D Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 That's a whatsamacallit that goes on the thingamajig and cushions that other whatsamacallit that supports the other thingamajig. Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 Norm, the "stopzemfromfloppin" generally has two straps as well. One of the first things I remove is the stopzemfromfloppin as it is not required for maxium visual effects especially as you prepare for an overhaul. Quote
billwillard Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 Do not know why you can't see it. Its a swiss mouse trap. The shiny 1/2" ball hits them in the head when they try to excape. Quote
Reg Evans Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 Looks like a internal universal device to me. More commonly referred to as an IUD. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 appears to be some sort of pressure blow-off valve..maybe for some air cleaner setup Quote
randroid Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 Gents, Looks like a check vavle of some sort, like an early attempt at a PCV valve? -Randy Quote
Young Ed Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 I still don't know what it is but I was going to bet it was guaranteed to improve power or economy. Your picture looks like that guess would be right. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 Ed, that was my thought also, thus, the "snake oil" reference earlier.Seems it would in all practicality only imped air flow to the cylinders. Possibly that ball with holes in it was to somehow stir the air up on it's way through causing some sort of turbulence to increase horsepower. Either that or it was to heat the air going into the carb. Did the manifold still have the heat control valve in it, or did this gadget take it's place? The ball could have possibly taken the place of the flapper in the manifold. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 That pipe and spring can't be too long then, otherwise it would interfere with the heat riser. I did mean to say heat riser in the last post. Was having a momentary senior moment though, so finally called it a heat control valve. You evidently got my jest though. Quote
norrism1 Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 It was to make a whistle sound like the Jetsons flying car. Ball with holes act like a police whistle ball does, or it would sound like a popcorn machine! LOL!!! Quote

Norm's Coupe Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 The heat riser is in the exhaust manifold not the intake manifold. I'm aware of that. My senior moment wasn't that big. Quote
Normspeed Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 Hit him with your shovel Norm:D Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 oh yeah..the chrysler pentastar.. Quote
splat1955 Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 Hey Shel......Are you really going to give that a try? Cool! I would really like to hear what you have to say about it.....right after you fire it up for the first time and after having driving the car for a while. I think that is pretty cool...no matter what it does. Hey Tim...good one about the Chrysler Pentastar...I saw that too and thought..naawwww. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 Just thought of something. Could that thing be one of those gadgets that was supposed to boost your MPG like they use to sell in the JC Whitney catalog years ago? Quote
greg g Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 Ok so the open end of the tube is facing the flow if fuel mix. So at loe or medium throttle, the ball would remain down and the tube closed, at WOT the flow through the tube would force the ball up and into the cage where it would be forced to rotate within the cage. This movement would aggitate the flow of the incoming air/fuel charge, thereby dramatically enhancing your diveabilty, power and of course economy. What yer looking at was the after market equivilent to the fuel ionizers of old or the "TORONADO" intake swirly thing of today. Quote

greg g Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 at the end of the tour and after already having traipsed through about a dozen cold stone structures, 198 steps up and 198 down faced with lying my back on a cold wet stone to kiss a piece of rock that hasn't been cleaned in 1000 years didn't hold much appeal. So we walked the grounds for a bit, got a couple pictures, and got back on the bus. Some folks did and the bus was noisey on the way to the hotel. This stuff seemed to have had the same effect on some others. I preferred this one Quote
