Norm, the "stopzemfromfloppin" generally has two straps as well.

One of the first things I remove is the stopzemfromfloppin as it is not required for maxium visual effects especially as you prepare for an overhaul.

I still don't know what it is but I was going to bet it was guaranteed to improve power or economy. Your picture looks like that guess would be right.

Ed, that was my thought also, thus, the "snake oil" reference earlier.

Seems it would in all practicality only imped air flow to the cylinders.

Possibly that ball with holes in it was to somehow stir the air up on it's way through causing some sort of turbulence to increase horsepower.

Either that or it was to heat the air going into the carb. Did the manifold still have the heat control valve in it, or did this gadget take it's place? The ball could have possibly taken the place of the flapper in the manifold.

That pipe and spring can't be too long then, otherwise it would interfere with the heat riser. I did mean to say heat riser in the last post. Was having a momentary senior moment though, so finally called it a heat control valve.:o You evidently got my jest though.

The heat riser is in the exhaust manifold not the intake manifold.

Hey Shel......Are you really going to give that a try? Cool! I would really like to hear what you have to say about it.....right after you fire it up for the first time and after having driving the car for a while. I think that is pretty cool...no matter what it does.

Hey Tim...good one about the Chrysler Pentastar...I saw that too and thought..naawwww.

Ok so the open end of the tube is facing the flow if fuel mix. So at loe or medium throttle, the ball would remain down and the tube closed, at WOT the flow through the tube would force the ball up and into the cage where it would be forced to rotate within the cage. This movement would aggitate the flow of the incoming air/fuel charge, thereby dramatically enhancing your diveabilty, power and of course economy. What yer looking at was the after market equivilent to the fuel ionizers of old or the "TORONADO" intake swirly thing of today.

Sound like some thing we could all use when explained this way. Let the dance begin.

at the end of the tour and after already having traipsed through about a dozen cold stone structures, 198 steps up and 198 down faced with lying my back on a cold wet stone to kiss a piece of rock that hasn't been cleaned in 1000 years didn't hold much appeal. So we walked the grounds for a bit, got a couple pictures, and got back on the bus.

Some folks did and the bus was noisey on the way to the hotel.

This stuff seemed to have had the same effect on some others.
