Napa currently shows out of stock for there gallons of GL1 which show 21.99 for me. So googling I found this stuff. It's advertised for tractor but the specs look right to me.

I'd run that no problem.

In A new high tech manual trans...maybe think twice.

Not on an old 3 speed MoPar.

I have mentioned I used this in the manual trans of my 52 Plymouth and was amazed by the improvement in operation. Smoother shifts and better performance all around. No more clunking into second gear.

Ya I remember that. I'm just coming off a major leak repair and if it's not actually fixed I'd hate to leak all the good stuff out.

One thing for sure...if it shifts right...the GL1  fluid is probably right too.

Dodge4ya:  The first sentence states it is ok to run in the old mopar 3 speed trans it is a GL1 all mineral oil, not a synthetic blend or full synthis GL1.

In your last sentence you state: Not on an old 3 speed MoPar.

So can we run this or not, I am confussed with the two statements.  I use the Napa Gl1 not synthetic, so why not the tractor supply that was used from 1939 -50 that were used inthe Ford Tractors?

No sure of your reasoning. I know you have alot of experience so that is why I am asking.

Delete that last sentence...too much multi-tasking!

guess it is all perception, I read that line as he would think twice of using it in newer tranny but not think twice about it in an old mopar 3 speed.....after all, it is the exact recommended oil....kind of a no brainer for certain...

most modern transmission have their own specific blend of synthetic oil + modifiers and such for the internal components and as such can be a tad costly.....real costly if you use the wrong oil....

I sort of thought the same with the last statement but just wanted to make sure.  I might possibly see the use of synthtic GL1 if the transahas been totally rebuilt with all new seals and gaskets.

Not sure if I would use it in an older trans would use the non synthetic mineral oil, GL1 as my first option.  I have seen cars from the 90's that people swithced over from 10W-30 or 53-30 to full and even blended synthetic oil and then they start to get oil leaks at the gaskets.

If the gasket are the original or older I would stay with the non-systhetic oils.

Just my 25 cents of input.
