I own a 1952 Plymouth with its original engine.  I am trying to hook up a dwell meter (Matco from the 60s — got it second hand) and I am thinking either (1) I’m not doing it right or (2) the meter is shot.  I have the ground on my battery’s ground and the hot on the coil.  Is this correct?  I’ve moved them all around (even reversing the ground) and the meter doesn’t budge.  Thanks in advance!

My dwell meter has 3 connections. Positive and negative for battery posts. (Red & black). The 3rd (yellow) wire, is for the coil primary side. The connection that has a wire going into the side of the distributor.

Many old model tach/dwell meters need some sort of battery  in them, often a 9Volt.

It is not magic, just little invisible people creating it.   Putting smoke back in the wires, that is magic.
