ChrisMinelli Posted October 6, 2020 Report Posted October 6, 2020 I own a 1952 Plymouth with its original engine. I am trying to hook up a dwell meter (Matco from the 60s — got it second hand) and I am thinking either (1) I’m not doing it right or (2) the meter is shot. I have the ground on my battery’s ground and the hot on the coil. Is this correct? I’ve moved them all around (even reversing the ground) and the meter doesn’t budge. Thanks in advance! Quote
keithb7 Posted October 6, 2020 Report Posted October 6, 2020 My dwell meter has 3 connections. Positive and negative for battery posts. (Red & black). The 3rd (yellow) wire, is for the coil primary side. The connection that has a wire going into the side of the distributor. 1 Quote
DJ194950 Posted October 6, 2020 Report Posted October 6, 2020 Many old model tach/dwell meters need some sort of battery in them, often a 9Volt. DJ 1 Quote
Pete Posted October 6, 2020 Report Posted October 6, 2020 Positive to ground, negative to coil. Quote

It is not magic, just little invisible people creating it. Putting smoke back in the wires, that is magic. Quote
ChrisMinelli Posted October 7, 2020 Author Report Posted October 7, 2020 Ahh ha! There was a dead battery in it I didn’t know about! Now that’s fixed and I can work on figuring out how to rotate a distributor. 4 Quote
