RNR1957NYer Posted March 7, 2020 Report Posted March 7, 2020 Ever play "Beer Hunter"? Place a six pack, with one can vigorously shaken, in the fridge....I think you can see where this is going.... BTW - you have two nice lookin' rides there! Quote
50mech Posted March 9, 2020 Report Posted March 9, 2020 Another post made me think of one more question, is your voltage regulator made for positive ground or do they have a neg ground VR on there? Quote
Brian Coleman Posted March 9, 2020 Author Report Posted March 9, 2020 All righty then,,,,,,,, Heres is what I have learned and done to the old Plymouth. I basically started over with the whole charging system. What I found out was that it would charge sometimes and then not the other time. I took the generator out and apart. Ohmed the armature and at that time I learned the armatuer was shorted to the shaft. Got me a used arm. and installed new brushes. Took arm. and regulator to a man who can run them on his bench and adjust the regulator. Brought back home,,,,,,, installed and it now runs and charges, and runs without batt. cable. Everything looks proper now. EXCEPT the needle is on the wrong side of the ammeter. Soooooo I went out cruising with no issues at all. Tonight I am going to stand on my head and switch back the wires on the ammeter that whoever had this thing all messed up. The thing is so good that the horn got louder, lights got brighter, turns over quicker. I think I may have even gotten FM on my AM radio OK maybe not I wish to thank everyone Brian 3 Quote
50mech Posted March 9, 2020 Report Posted March 9, 2020 Awesome! Seemed like more than one issue but hey now you know. Quote
Brian Coleman Posted March 9, 2020 Author Report Posted March 9, 2020 You betcha,,,,,,, Thanks again Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted March 24, 2020 Report Posted March 24, 2020 have you tried to lube the vacuum motor in any manner? To what degree do you have a good vacuum available? Quote
Brian Coleman Posted March 24, 2020 Author Report Posted March 24, 2020 vacumn is in good shape. Put virgin olive oil on wiper leather. Its like it just wont change direction, until I turn off the knob. Quote

Brian Coleman Posted March 24, 2020 Author Report Posted March 24, 2020 I agree but don't know what to do????????????? Thanks Brian Quote
greg g Posted March 24, 2020 Report Posted March 24, 2020 With the engine at idle, let them go to the position where they stop, then quickly close the valve. What happens? Quote
Brian Coleman Posted March 24, 2020 Author Report Posted March 24, 2020 Turn valve on they both go to center, and stop. Turn switch to off and then and only then will they go back down Quote
kencombs Posted March 24, 2020 Report Posted March 24, 2020 I would remove the motor and disassemble the valve, expecting to find a broken part. Quote
