rb1949 Posted May 14, 2016 Report Posted May 14, 2016 Car projects keep you busy overtime, so we occasionally dash out to get a burger at the fast food joint. We've got the usual BK, McD, Rally's, Arby's, and infamous White Castle. For some reason I always bypass Wendy's. I remember Hot n' Now from out West. We don't have a Sonic within range. For 50 years, there is still a Hot Dog Drive- In, carhops and tray on the window. What's your preferred place and choice of burger? Quote
TodFitch Posted May 14, 2016 Report Posted May 14, 2016 At present, I think the best burgers are at a local place called Biggie's Burgers. One location here and, I think maybe, one other location a bit up the coast in another town. Of the regional and national chains with drive throughs, In-N-Out Burger far surpasses McD, BK, Carls Jr, etc. For sit down places, its been a while since I've been in one but Johnny Rockets was pretty good. rb1949 Posted May 14, 2016 Author Report Posted May 14, 2016 There is a 5 Guys here. Never been. Brain fart, it was In n' Out, not Hot n' Now. Couldn't remember earlier, FudRuckers (sit down). I always get 3 White Castle Sliders to eat in the car on the way home from morning doctor appt. Quote
greg g Posted May 14, 2016 Report Posted May 14, 2016 The small restaurant at one of our local golf courses has one of the best burgers around here. Fresh ground beef, salt and pepper, fresh toppings to build your own, and all for less than the normal $9.00 stuff. We also have a small local chain called Zeb's. they hand cut their fries from moisture managed Idaho russets. Plus they do the proper twice fried deal. They also have a help yourself toppings bar, with 3 or 4 kinds of Brooklyn made pickles. 1 Quote
Todd B Posted May 14, 2016 Report Posted May 14, 2016 You would have plenty of time to go to a nice dine in restaurant instead of fast food if you wouldn't use your time to start a crazy thread like this!!!!!!!! Just my 2 cents! 1 Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 14, 2016 Report Posted May 14, 2016 Most fast food joints charge as much or more than a good family eatery. And at a fast food joint they want you to buss your own table and that is something I will not do. There is someone paid to buss tables and they will be out of work if I buss my own table. Fast food is not like a National Park. Carry out your trash is not required at a fast food joint. Quote
greg g Posted May 15, 2016 Report Posted May 15, 2016 Hey Todd, is this any worse than the Napkin vs. Papertowels debate of a few years back??? Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 15, 2016 Report Posted May 15, 2016 Hey Todd, is this any worse than the Napkin vs. Papertowels debate of a few years back??? What would Norms Coupe have to say about this? I sure miss him. Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted May 16, 2016 Report Posted May 16, 2016 Nunzio's in Sayerville NJ, Whataburger in TX, Blake's Lotaburger in NM, Chicken Shack in MI, Buffalo Road House in...Buffalo. All are too far from Maine for a quick fix. Closest franchise thing other than Mickey D's or BK in Houlton would be in Bangor, 1 1/2 hrs down I-95 at 75mph. There are Governor's restaurants around the state that are a good bet, closest one to us is still 50 miles up US1. But the Mom-and-Pops here are awesome, and there are too many to name off hand. But The Blue Moose in Littleton, Grammies in Linneus, and the Elm Tree in Houlton are a short jaunt for us, and must go for anyone visiting the area. Especially Grammies - home of dodge-ball sized Whoopie Pies, and more French fries per serving than you can shake a French fry at... Quote
Captain Neon Posted May 23, 2016 Report Posted May 23, 2016 Pretty excited to confirm that there is a 5 Guys franchise opening in the neighbouring community of Albertville. Anticipated opening is in July. The BK across the street may never see me again, esp. after the fiasco this Sunday. I was already ticked off that McDonald's must keep their burger patties in a time locked vault. Don't advertise on the marquee "Burgers for Breakfast!" and then not be ready if someone orders burgers at 10:15 AM. They stop serving breakfast at 10:30 AM. I'd maybe understand if it was 6:15 AM and it took a few extra minutes (5?) to walk back to the cooler and throw some patties in the microwave, but a 15 minute wait is pretty much unacceptable from a place like that. I used to work fast food summers and Christmas Break from university before going to the packing house another 8+ hours. Quote
