doogan Posted February 12, 2016 Report Posted February 12, 2016 Well I am completely bumfuzzeled. I got my 49 engine back from having it completely rebuilt and while putting everything back on it I found an extra hole. On the left side of the engine, in front of the starter the oil lines connect, one above the other. In front of them is a hole without any threads. What is used to plug this. I looked a pictures before it was taken to the shop and it seems to have had some type of plug in it which has been removed. I called the shop and of course got no where. I placed a screw driver into this and it goes directly into the lower crankcase. Since there isn't much pressure here could gasket sealer be used to plug this? Anyone else run across this? Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 13, 2016 Report Posted February 13, 2016 Are the freeze plugs installed? Is the distributor installed? Quote
TodFitch Posted February 13, 2016 Report Posted February 13, 2016 Got a picture of the hole and its location? Quote
Merle Coggins Posted February 13, 2016 Report Posted February 13, 2016 It sounds like you are describing the dipstick tube hole, which is not used on the truck engines. It gets plugged with a cup type core plug. 1 Quote
Young Ed Posted February 13, 2016 Report Posted February 13, 2016 Yes we need a picture. Lots of things it could be. Dipstick oil filter lines oil pressure relief valve frost plug..... Quote
doogan Posted February 13, 2016 Author Report Posted February 13, 2016 Merle that is exactly what it is and your picture is exactly what I would have posted, if I knew how!!!!! So since it is a truck I can plug this hole as the dip stick goes in the oil pan on the truck. Oh by the way, can this core plug be bought at the local auto supply? Great not to be bumfuzzeled any longer. THANKS guys! Quote
PT81Jan Posted February 13, 2016 Report Posted February 13, 2016 If still of interest, here is a picture with the dip stick tube installed at that bore on the motor of my Plymouth truck Jan Quote
Merle Coggins Posted February 13, 2016 Report Posted February 13, 2016 As I recall its a 1/2" cup plug. You'll probably have to buy more than 1, in a package. Quote
ggdad1951 Posted February 13, 2016 Report Posted February 13, 2016 FEF had the block dip stick till Ed helped me out with a truck pan. Got a plug at NAPA for pennies. Quote
