The Oil Soup Posted December 31, 2015 Report Posted December 31, 2015 I've got the remains of what looks like a rubber seal where the fuel tank inlet comes through the bottom of the cab. Replacing the seal won't be a problem, my question is how was the rubber attached to the cab? Is there some sort of frame or a few screws that secure it? I don't see anything on it in the shop manual. The truck is a B4B. Thanks, Gary Quote

Brent B3B Posted December 31, 2015 Report Posted December 31, 2015 all mine only had a thin gasket at best that was screwed with sheet metal screws to the cab floor from inside. but I came across one at DCM looking for cab mounts http://dodgecentralmi.biz/ocart/Rubber/Seals/da-766-gas-tank-seal.html Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted December 31, 2015 Report Posted December 31, 2015 An original at a wrecking yard I found last summer..... 1 Quote
Bobacuda Posted December 31, 2015 Report Posted December 31, 2015 The seal on my B4B was original and it looked like the one in Dodgeb4ya's photo. I used a little silicone seal to anchor mine. 1 Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted December 31, 2015 Report Posted December 31, 2015 I made a metal plate that sandwich's the seal between it and the cab floor. It is fastened in place with 4 short screws. Jeff Quote
ggdad1951 Posted December 31, 2015 Report Posted December 31, 2015 Original just had the gasket...just layed there no frame or screws holding it down. Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted December 31, 2015 Report Posted December 31, 2015 Original just had the gasket...just layed there no frame or screws holding it down. Well......mine had evenly spaced holes for screws in the cab floor. Looked like they were there from the factory. I just traced their locations on the metal plate I made. Works well to provide a positive seal in a location that could be a problem otherwise. I suppose there is more than one way to deal with this but mine is easily removed for access and maintenance. The Oil Soup Posted December 31, 2015 Author Report Posted December 31, 2015 Well, it sounds like I have several options. Thanks guys! Quote

Jeff In my opinion fixing the gasket in place will not allow it to float as the cab shifts around on the cab mounts vs the gas tank that is fixed pretty rigidly to the frame. Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted January 1, 2016 Report Posted January 1, 2016 Mark; Yes I allowed for this. The opening in the metal plate I made is quite a bit larger than the tank neck. I made the seal from 1/8" thick rubber so there is some give where it seals. Jeff Quote
