greg g Posted July 6, 2015 Report Posted July 6, 2015 The brake line for the rear brakes on my Austin Healy Sprite project uses a 3/16 JIC (Joint Industry Commission standard) bubble flair with a female tube nut on the rear end to connect to a flex hose connecting to the splitter fitting on the axle. Most modern brake lines are male/male fittings on both ends. I talked to a fellow at a hydraulic line specialty place whis says he can reflair my line and replace the bunged up nut, but doesn't stock the nut. He said these were common to military equipment, but no longer in common use. Anybody know about these fittings and where I might source a replacement tube nut? Quote
Niel Hoback Posted July 6, 2015 Report Posted July 6, 2015 There should be a AH forum that would have links to British parts suppliers? Quote
RodFru2u Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 You might try Mossmotors.com . They are in Goleta, CA and have another location on the east coast. I am sure they have "stock:" parts for almost all British Cars. We restored the '51 MG using their free catalog for some new parts;started ordering parts from them in the 70's & I still order from them, Great Vendor for LBC's ( Little British Cars ) . Quote
greg g Posted July 7, 2015 Author Report Posted July 7, 2015 I have tried all the LBC regulat sources to no avail. I do not need to replace the whole brake line system just the line to the rear axle. Quote
Ulu Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 Any good machinist with a lathe can make that nut. It might not be cheap, but it's just a hunk of brass. Quote
RodFru2u Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 just remembered an other source, Fromtheframeup.com Doug Penelton is a good guy . He might have it in stock Quote
Dave72dt Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 I know they makes nuts to cap the end of a JIC line. I would think it wouldn't be that hard to convert it into a tube fitting and then flare the line. Otherwise, check someone like Russell fittings. Surprised it's standard JIC. would have thought it to be British bubble and I believe that's a 45 degree end and not the 37 degree of a JIC. Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 Try McMaster Carr. http://www.mcmaster.com/#jic-tube-fittings/=xy6d51 Quote
greg g Posted July 7, 2015 Author Report Posted July 7, 2015 They don't show anything for 3/16 tube. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 -3 (3/16") JIC is an odd (obsolete) size. As shown in Don's McMaster-Carr link, -4, -5, -6, etc are more common and easy to get. Sorry, I don't have any other leads for you. I can only wish you good luck. Merle Quote
Merle Coggins Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 Just found this place... Might be worth a try. http://www.hydraulicsdirect.com/SS_318_Stainless_JIC_Fittings_p/ss-318.htm Quote
