SimonTiki Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 Hi, I am still struggling to get a pair of rear brake drums/hubs for my 1950 Dodge Wayfarer. I had an idea and wondered if it was crazy or not. Is it possible to covert the front brakes to discs and then convert the front brake drums to use on the rear? Any ideas? Quote
Young Ed Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 If the drums are the same front to back with the hubs removed it might be possible. You'd have to have usable hubs on your drums and then either reattach drum to hub or run them loose like a few guys on here. Quote
desoto1939 Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 since the front brake drums do not have the slot for the metal key and a full tapered axle then I do not think the fronts would for on the back if trying to use the same drums. Rich Hartung Quote

Rich Hartung Those are in the hub. They certainly won't swap as a unit but possibly just the drum itself would. Quote
RobertKB Posted July 2, 2015 Report Posted July 2, 2015 I still can't believe drums cannot be found. There were a lot of these cars built. Surely some junkyard or supplier has one or two. I thought in the other thread some drums had been found although they were expensive. I know the car is in England and it is expensive to ship but that is usually the price you pay working on a car from a different country. Quote
Robin (UK) Posted July 2, 2015 Report Posted July 2, 2015 The new drums that are available are front only and Simon hasn't yet been able to find any good used drums. As you say, they must be out there, but the search goes on... Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 2, 2015 Report Posted July 2, 2015 the man is not in the US/Canada but in the UK...I would figure his search to be as it is going now...long and full of frustration 1 Quote
Young Ed Posted July 2, 2015 Report Posted July 2, 2015 Call French Lake auto parts in Annondale MN. They probably have 10 of each drum and they will pull and ship. Quote
SimonTiki Posted July 3, 2015 Author Report Posted July 3, 2015 Thanks all. I think I may have located a 49 Wayfarer axle in Florida, so I'm currently trying to tie that down and arrange shipping. If it falls through, I'll be onto French lake Auto Parts. 2 Quote
