Let's see how many swear words I have to censor (water distribution tube)

Trying to get everything finished before I'm completely grey (or bald lol)

I do a lot of the work with my wife by my side with our daughter (a year and a half old). Usually I have no problem explaining what I'm doing, but now I'm staying silent as the only things wanting to come out are cuss words with this water distribution tube.

I'm at the point that I'm just laughing like Cesar Romero.

I've looked up the old threads and have tried shoving flat head screw drivers, pulling with a steering wheel type puller, and attaching a hook and hitting the pipe with a happier to jolt it out. Nothing is working. It's been sitting for 2 days with PB blaster sprayed on it twice a day. Noting and now I've ripped the first hole.

Is there anything that will work better than PB blaster sprayed on and around the tube?

Luck & more cuss words......usually a bunch in a row.

Lmao

Once I tugged to get the screwdriver out and I actually pulled the handle off and smacked my elbow on that metal where the hood latch is, is when the rows and rows of cuss words and kinda censored cuss words came out. Then the laughing started. The cars name is Dorothy (was a one owner car from Kansas) but I called her everything but that tonight.

I was lucky, a couple years back when I had my water pump rebuilt, I was going to "try" to remove the WDT. Fortunately, a previous owner had (poorly) fabricated one out of copper pipe. It came out without any issues. One thing I did, was spend the extra money & bought/installed a brass WDT. Good luck & pics of "the remains", once they're out.

Oh I plan on posting pics once it's out. More for a "in your face Flanders" moment towards the car.

I do plan on buying a brass one. I plan to keep this car for a long time and my future self will thank me.

I went through the same shades of hell when I pulled the water distribution tube from my truck's block.  After trying pretty much everything you have, I had 1/4 of the tube out and the rest still installed. I was able to hook a stiff wire way to the back of the tube's remains, but could not pull it like the shop manual says.  Finally, I took a piece of flat metal roughly 3/4" wide and 1/8" thick, rounded the end off, then sharpened one side of the end down to the other side - basically made it a long wedge.  I was able to slide that between the side of the tube on the cylinder side (flat side to the cylinders).  I was able to tap that in and basically crush the tube off of the cylinders.  I would tap it in a short distance, try pulling, then tap it in some more.  Finally, it broke loose and came out.

Very frustrating and I had reached the point that I was either going to fix it or really break it.

Good luck.

Jeff, I don't personally know you but you have my complete sympathy and respect.

Well like I said you can count yourself lucky...... on both counts! :D

When they get real bad like mine was curse words don't begin to cut it. Mine came out in several fairly small pieces over the course of several days.

Oh I saw that, and trust me, I even said a few cuss words for you with that picture. That is just unbelievable. When I opened mine up it looked pretty good but I wasn't sure how the back was and since I plan on keeping this car for a long time I decided it was best and safest to just pull it now and replace with brass. A little trouble now will save me a lot of trouble later on.

Harvey, did you post a thread on how you got yours out? I did a lot of reading on how everyone got theirs out and decided to try and combine as many ways as I could for success.

Lol, looks like I may actually complete the car WITH my sanity intact.

Good luck with that! :P

Replacing with brass is an excellent idea. All Canadian cars I have ever dealt with have the brass tube and they are very easy to remove. Usually a coat hanger (bent appropriately), vise grips to hold it, and a smallish hammer to tap the vise grips and..............voila!! They come out in one piece and are totally reusable. I never understood the use of steel for the distribution tube but then when these cars were built nobody expected people with diminished mental capacities to still be working on them 60+ years later! :P

Along with the distribution tube, if you have not already done so,  I hope that at the same time you will pull all the welch/freeze/core plugs, and the drain on the driver's side of the block to do a thorough flush of the water jacket :)

Yep, I'll be doing that as well. No way I'd come this far and quit shy of giving it 100%

Also quick question......My distribution tube would be the 25.5 inch one correct? I was sure it was the 25.5 but after searching I've found mixed info in regards to the 23''.

I thought Chrysler and Desoto's were the 25.5 as well as the Canadian Dodge and Plymouths, and that the 23'' belonged to the American Dodge and Plymouths.

I stopped being lazy and drove out to my parents where the car is (30 mins each way) just to measure the tube. Its 25.5 like I thought. Now on to ordering that brass one  :D

I GOT IT!!!!!!

Finally after many bloody knuckles and heavily bruised elbows it out!

The good news is, if that is a Craftsman screwdriver it has a lifetime warranty. Just take it to your nearest Sears store and get a new one for the cost of your signature, time and gas to get there, because nothing is free.

LOL, that was actually the very first thing I did once the handle broke off was look to see who made it. Put it in the trunk of the car for the next time the wife and I go to the mall.

That is my eternal optimist side coming through. Trying to find the silver lining in every cloud helps me get through a lot.
