55 Fargo Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 Thanks! I seen some people when searching saying 0 or 00. Was hoping 1 gauge would work! Thanks again. Yes 1 gauge is sufficient, and 1/0 or 2/0 are better and can handle a higher current draw/load. I had 2/0 cables made at an auto electric shop, never did regret that. Think of the current as a water hose the bigger the cable the bigger the hose. Tony get this old beast running and see what's what, your on the right track and covering all the basics.....keep us posted Quote

Trying to see if my master is bad, since the brake pedal goes to the floor. Then I will order pretty much, battery, coil, cables, master...whatever else is need for the brakes. I wanted to make it roadworthy, then work on it, as I go along. Quote
_shel_ny Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 Some have master and wheel cylinders sleeved rather than replacing. Inspecting your parts may help to decide which way to go. If you do Rock Auto be sure to use a discount code for 5% savings. I have had good experiences with them. When ordering things you just have to watch the shipping. If it starts coming from multiple locations, the shipping will jump up. 2981503327366595 good till May 24, 15 Enter the code above in the "How Did You Hear About Us?" space 1 Quote

I will be inspecting everything tomorrow on the braking system. Hopefully the wheel cylinders are good and just the master like the previous owner said. But then again, I am sure the bleeders will break when tying to bleed the system. Hope I do the master properly. I am used to the style on the firewall,, and bench bleeding. This one looks way different than what I am used to. Thanks very much for the code! . Edited March 24, 2015 by Tony724 Quote
Tony724 Posted March 26, 2015 Author Report Posted March 26, 2015 I would like to order this battery from Summit. It doesn't list it for my 1952 Cambridge. Is it still okay, since it is 6 volt? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ult-9010-044/overview/ Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 26, 2015 Report Posted March 26, 2015 (edited) pay close attention to height...you will need to make your own style hold down clamp... Edited March 26, 2015 by Plymouthy Adams Quote
Dave72dt Posted March 26, 2015 Report Posted March 26, 2015 Check your battery box to see if it will physically fit in it. You'll need to create your own hold down bracket for it if it does. That's about the right length and height for a standard 6 v battery but you'll have to deal with the width. Quote
Tony724 Posted March 26, 2015 Author Report Posted March 26, 2015 pay close attention to height...you will need to make your won style hold down clamp... Oh crap! I didn't think of the height. i will measure mine, and see if there is room. I the hold down I would have to play with, forgot about the height, will check today to make sure before ordering. I wasn't sure since it didn't name my car for application. But I figured since it was a 6 volt, should work. Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted March 26, 2015 Report Posted March 26, 2015 (edited) you can lay this battery on its side if you really want to...they are 100% sealed ...Ihave one here and found in many cases it is a bit high as I use it from one car to another...but I am a traditionalist and mindset is tits up Edited March 26, 2015 by Plymouthy Adams 1 Quote
Tony724 Posted March 26, 2015 Author Report Posted March 26, 2015 you can lay this battery on its side if you really want to...they are 100% sealed ... Wooooo, didn't know that! I see it is only about 3 1/2 inches wide. The skinny! I like the idea of the sealed battery., Quote
Don Coatney Posted March 26, 2015 Report Posted March 26, 2015 Check Amazon. Same battery less money Quote
1950 Special Deluxe Posted March 26, 2015 Report Posted March 26, 2015 That is the battery i put in my car. made a new hold down. Quote
Desotodav Posted March 26, 2015 Report Posted March 26, 2015 I run the same battery in my 52 truck Tony and couldn't be happier. It is a pity that we can't get them here in Oz for the same price as you guys in USA though! The supplier here in Oz told me that they moved the manufacturing plant to Mexico as they found that they could make the batteries cheaper there. I recently heard that you can void your warranty if you let the battery go flat - so consider purchasing a 'trickle charger' as well at the time of buying your battery. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted March 27, 2015 Report Posted March 27, 2015 I've gotten 6-volt batteries for my Plymouths at Sam's Club. The one in my area has them in stock all the time. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted March 27, 2015 Report Posted March 27, 2015 6 volt batteries at any farm supply store. Quote

Plus I used my summit card...LOL That is the battery i put in my car. made a new hold down. I am sure I will have to fabricate a hold down. I was meauring today. I do have a battery tender, but now I have to buy another one for 6 volt. I have always used them on my cars that I keep parked for winter. Which seems to last forever now. Yeah, seems the good ole USA contracts everything out now, china, mexico...etc. CHeaper to get stuff built there. Hope the quality is the same. I've gotten 6-volt batteries for my Plymouths at Sam's Club. The one in my area has them in stock all the time. I never even knew they had them there. I am in there once a month for a bulk order for my wifes business. I see tires, but never noticed the batteries. Quote
Tony724 Posted March 27, 2015 Author Report Posted March 27, 2015 6 volt batteries at any farm supply store. Thats where I am getting my 1 gauge battery cables tomorrow. At tractor supply. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 27, 2015 Report Posted March 27, 2015 6 volt batteries at any farm supply store. yeah..group ones only and they cheezy at that....not real quality in a 6 volt battery these days..they only as good as they are backed by the company..and there is little warranty period on these junkers.. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted March 27, 2015 Report Posted March 27, 2015 I got 7 years out of the first one, 8 out of the last and have 4 years on this one. I don't call that cheezy. The one I have now was $60, the most I've paid for a 6 volt battery in the last 55 years. Yay, TSC. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 27, 2015 Report Posted March 27, 2015 I am glad you have good luck..most cannot say that...I will say that if I used my car a bit more often it may extend its battery life...this comes direct under pay to play regardless of who what when or where.. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted March 27, 2015 Report Posted March 27, 2015 I think that is the reason, I use the car regularly, at least once a week, and use a tender when it will be more than a few days. Using an alternator also helps and keeping it tuned so it starts easily gives the battery a break also. Both of the used batteries I gave to a friend of mine who puts them in his Trabants where they don't get used much at all, if any. When he does want to use one of the cars he has to jump start it and the batteries are practically good only to give the generators something to do. Quote
Tony724 Posted March 27, 2015 Author Report Posted March 27, 2015 Hope I have some good luck with the Optima. I use a tender though on all my cars that sit in the garage as hobby cars. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 27, 2015 Report Posted March 27, 2015 Optima different type of battery..after sitting almost two years..mine still fired the engine over... Quote
