Greetings Fellas,

Just dragged home an old B-1-B 1/2 ton short bed.  Got engine running after the prev. owner had it sitting outside at least 5 years...good sign.  The engine sounded good, but the carb needs replaced.  I can't seem to locate ID numbers...it is a Carter.  Has 0-370 (and possibly an 8?) casting marks on the one side.  Where else should I look since these numbers don't seem to match up with the carb spec sheet I downloaded from the site.  Would a DTE1 or DTE2 be a universal fit for '49 - '51's?  They are all BB's.  Or, would any of the one's listed for the year work?  I need to order a refurbished carb asap, any help is greatly appreciated!  I'll be posting pics soon as I start taking it down to the frame.

Thanks for the help fella's!

It looks like I can just order a rebuilt carb from Carb-X and then send in my old core.  They only list one Carter carb for all '42-'60 Dodge's so I guess they are a universal fit(?) and possibly changed model numbers as they made minor changes to them.  Does that sound logical?

My truck is a fluid drive and it has a DTG1 with a dashpot.  The first kit I got did not have the gaskets or the dashpot.  Make sure yours has, or does have a dashpot when ordering a kit or replacing it.

Hey Bobacuda,

Mine is not a fluid drive, so would I need the dashpot for mine or is that specific for yours?  I'm ordering a new re-built carb, not a kit.  Can I get a dashpot as an add-on or don't I need it for my application?  Carb-X tech says theirs does not have the dashpot.  Thought I could just order the rebuilt and bolt-on...now I'm confused....

Carb-X part number is: 12-122A

Replaces:

OEM Carter Parts Numbers

Carter DTE1 , Carter DTE2

Carter DTC1 , Carter E7T1

Carter E7T2 , Carter ETT1

Carter E7U1 , Carter E7U2

All These Part Number Interchange into Our Part Number 12-122A

You do not need the dashpot if you don't have Fluid Drive. Mine is also a DTG1 with dashpot plunger as I also have FD on my truck. However, I have it pretty much disabled and I don't have any stalling issues.

Mike's Carburetors has kits with dashpot repair parts, as well as dashpots - if you need it.  A carb with a dashpot will look like it has two accelerator pumps in it.  Look at the attached photo of my carb and you will see the "dashpot hump" on the side of the carb closest to you.  It has an adjustment with a screw and spring on the top.  If your carb doesn't have this, no dashpot.

why not rebuild the one on your truck?

also, mike's carburetor parts is a good place to get parts.  nice complete kits, and made-in-usa parts.  good prices, too.

the carb on my 1.5-ton 237 is a E7T2.

don't know about Mike's but, i got my fuel pump rebuild kit from http://www.classicpreservation.com/fuelpumpkits.html

as another option for parts or service.

wonder if the B1 shop manual list the carburetors out like the B3 book as far as what is supposed to go on what model?

That is a vacuum powered wolf whistle. They were popular in the 40's, 50's.

Do you wanna hear the most annoying sound in the world.... That wins LOL I've heard the exhaust ones, never an intake whistle

That is a Hollywood Wolf Whistle that I bought from JC Whitney and put on my '51 Plymouth around 1968.  Exhaust whistles are illegal in Texas, intake whistles aren't.  The whistle portion looks like a small siren that is held in the trumpet portion.  I installed it on my intake, attached an old choke cable to it that I mounted under the dash, and with a little practice manipulating the cable, I could do a great "wolf whistle" with it.  A short burst would freeze a deer in its tracks.  I moved it to my truck in 1975.

The problem with having one is EVERYONE wants to play with it.  I took my truck to college after my time in the Navy.  When driving by the girl's dorms or the river where they young ladies would be out sunning themselves, I damn near had to break my friends arms to get them to quit pulling the whistle. They really are fun and if you are doing parades, just don't use it by the horses.

BTW, that one is pretty well worn out, but everyone in the family wants me to get another when I have the truck back together and on the road.
