ACJCF2 Posted March 6, 2015 Report Posted March 6, 2015 Found a good source for shop manuals. They have both originals for $79 - $89, or reprints for $39. Anyone have first-hand knowledge if the re-print is inferior to the higher priced original. They also offered repos of the owners manual. Thanks, Jim Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 6, 2015 Report Posted March 6, 2015 I have a reprint and an original..I use the reprint for daily use and have no problems with the text or photographs...I cannot speak for all companies that reprint or if all are by license..but I have zero issue to speak of. Quote
TodFitch Posted March 6, 2015 Report Posted March 6, 2015 You don't list your possible vendor and my experience has been that some vendors have higher print quality than others. That said, all the reprints I've seen were made by copying an original manual and while they are legible and you can usually make out details in the photos, the originals are higher quality. In some cases I have both an original and a reprint: The original stays safely in my house for me to read with clean hands and the reprint is used while working on the car and gets pretty soiled. ACJCF2 Posted March 7, 2015 Author Report Posted March 7, 2015 Tod, Faxon Auto Literature is the source. Two are blue in color; 49-52 Dodge Car Shop Repair Manual, one a original and one a Bishko licensed reproduction. $89 and $34 respectively. A yellow 49-50 Dodge car repair shop manual for $79 (original). Hope this helps Jim Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 7, 2015 Report Posted March 7, 2015 I think that somewhere I have some manual on a DVD............but, guess what,.............being an old person and not finding everything to do with a computer handy........I can't recall ever actually using it. I think I may have looked AT it once when first got it. Seemed like a good idea at the time. I don't usually take the laptop to the garage. I've never purchased a reprint manual so I can't attest to the quality. At Hershey last year, I bought a better condition original Parts Manual for (I think) $75. And that was cheaper than another one back down the way. These books have gotten higher, but are still something a person needs. Think I still have a good owner's manual too. Quote
61farnham Posted March 7, 2015 Report Posted March 7, 2015 If your not in a rush for them keep an eye on ebay as they turn up fairly regularly for less money, I brought both shop and parts manuals for my Plymouth in good clean condition for less than the reprints. I agree with Todd that the reprints photos aren't as clear as the original manuals but still good enough to understand. regards........... Simon. Quote
ChrisRice Posted March 13, 2015 Report Posted March 13, 2015 Digital copies can be found for a good price as well, if you are computer savvy. I personally have a computer in my workshop and it comes in handy for the digital copy (I have a reprint as well stashed away) as well as for youtube how-to videos. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 13, 2015 Report Posted March 13, 2015 I have never seen the practical side of a digital format of the manual..I have the parts books on a couple of the cars is this manner...such a super pain to try to use..they came with the cars when I got them, I would not waste time nor money on them personally..BUT,,,there is always a but...beats not having anything at all to reference Quote
1950 Special Deluxe Posted March 13, 2015 Report Posted March 13, 2015 I am a little "frugal" some say cheap, but I found a good deal on a few different digital parts catalogues and I printed them off at work. So I have the digital copies filed away and a paper copy to use. Quote
