Plymouthy Adams Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 plywood will laminate when wet, plywood of the thickness you would use is often called laun.....all material other than ABS will cause warping and such...if you use regular door card material from a trimmer supply you still have to use a plastic moisture barrier between card and metal door to ensure no/lower moisture transfer.. Personally I use Masonite and cut the cards...then I seal them with two coats of polyurethane..then again, use the moisture barrier.. Quote
Mattias78 Posted March 3, 2015 Author Report Posted March 3, 2015 Great!! Never thought of masonite! If i remember right i saw a thread that you could use velcro to fasten the panel to the door! Is it a good idea!? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 that would have been yet another person with the Velcro...I still do things the old way and cut the cards complete with the slots for the clips..example of my P15 panels... Quote
Captain Neon Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 I've heard lots of success using corruplast (corrugated plastic). Plenty of corruplast free for the taking every November. Here in Minnesota, lots of them left up state-wide with "Johnson for Governor" printed on them. 1 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 I have seen that stuff...never found a campaign ad large enough for a door card...guess we have small polictical fish my area..minnows, no sharks..you can also use dairy board if you like..it is pretty much sealed to begin with..only have to touch up where you cut and drill on the average.. Jerry Roberts Posted March 4, 2015 Report Posted March 4, 2015 My local Home Depo sells corrugated plastic . Quote
48ply1stcar Posted March 4, 2015 Report Posted March 4, 2015 I used a panelboard that I bought a local upholersty supply shop. You can see the panels "Finally started on the interior" Haven't figured out how to link to a previous post. 1 Quote

Yes i have my doubts about velcro also! But is there some one out there that has used velcro with nice results? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 4, 2015 Report Posted March 4, 2015 I used masonite for my previous door panels.......but the thing I discovered was it has no flexibility.....like the cardboard type material. When I went to put those cone shaped springs behind the door handle and window crank, I could not get them to compress enough because the masonite had no give. So I did not use the springs.....which left the escutcheons loose (if you looked closely enough). Of course, no one ever seemed to notice during the 10 or 15 years it was that way. Tim.....is there a better way to use the springs with masonite? Quote
Oldguy48 Posted March 5, 2015 Report Posted March 5, 2015 I used a pressed cardboard material purchased from the upholstery shop that did my interior. Very similar to the original material. Cut out all the holes for the fasteners, etc. and coated with 2 coats of spar urethane varnish. Have had no issues with warping, although the car rarely gets rained upon. Wayne 1 Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted March 5, 2015 Report Posted March 5, 2015 Very smart to seal that upholstry panel cardboard! 1 Quote
