Young Ed Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 Family piled in the 48 today and drove to the apple orchard. Had a great time running around the orchard and pumpkin patch. The few splotches of fall color remaining were in places you couldn't park so no pictures 1 Quote
linus6948 Posted October 12, 2014 Author Report Posted October 12, 2014 My Bride has a thing for Pumpkins so we go every year to a friends farm and pick a bin of them and she puts them all around the house and garden as fall decorations. This has gone on for about 15yrs and there was never a problem, occasionally the squirrels would tunnel into one or two of them but for the most part they went unmolested. This year has been different, a couple of mornings ago we awoke to find about a dozen small pumpkins gone stems and all, and a couple of our largest ones near the front door all clawed-up and gnawed on. Apparently Black Bear are very fond of fresh Pumpkins, the Bride is not happy. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 where is her "but they little hungry wild animal spirit" ???? Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 I failed to see any claw or bite marks in the first photo you posted??? The face must have scared the bears. When we lived in Tennessee after Halloween my wife would toss the pumpkins over the railing on the back deck and let them winter there. Then the next year we did not have to buy any pumpkins. 1 Quote

We do the same Don, and they grow, but the Deer eat the flowers as fast as they open and we never saw a pumpkin make it yet. Quote
BigDaddyO Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 Bears? I got a bear that, if he can't reach the feeder from the ground, he will circle around the house, get on the deck and pull the feeder up. 4 Quote
