binderbart Posted May 16, 2014 Author Report Posted May 16, 2014 Gave all this some serious thought at work last night. Now, to all the purist, the last thing I would ever what to do is anger or upset anyone. So far I really like what I see in this site and it seems there are alot of great people in here with a lot of useful knowledge. It reminds me a lot of a scout site I go to, one where you feel like family the first time you visit. I do have a lot of respect for originality and if that was a choice here it would be the route I would go. The car is going to be a nice driver but to go back to original it would be a little more than making a silk purse outta a sow's ear, and this farmer doesn't have that kind of a income. My thought last night was, has anyone ever dropped this body on another frame, something newer with the front disc/rear drum set up already there? even sweeter, something that is already V-8/auto equipped? chevy would be the best in my case. You see......she said something to me the other day I thought I would never hear from her. It was music to my ears. She was looking the interior over as she plans to do this herself and asked if I could put dual exhaust on it!!!!! I truely know I married the right woman now, and just the thought of finding a easy frame/drivetrain swap would be a dream come true, I have done these on other things and have a hoist. August is our big weekend criuse to clear lake Iowa and to complete this by then would be a summer to remember, I have done some searching and found nothing yet, any help would be great. Quote

I'm sure you can find a fram/wheelbase that works. Check Dakotas. But you mention $$$ and I think in the end if you were to compare price totals. Rebuild original will probably come out cheaper, when it's all said and done. Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 Have you ever heard the sound of dual exhaust on a flatty 6? Pictured is the Scout I used to own. Had the famous 152 4 banger. Quote

TodFitch Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 Actually Don dropped the Corvette body on a Scout frame. And he kept the Scout body for future use, you can see it behind the Corvette bodied car that is in front. Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 Actually I just dropped the corvette body Quote

Adam H P15 D30 Posted May 17, 2014 Report Posted May 17, 2014 Just an FYI. You will spend 2x the money, 10x the time and probably come out with a butchered car if you frame swap. People don't realize how much work it is. The most I would do is a front clip. For the cheapest/easiest route would be a disk brake kit on the stock front end. Quote

Kinda what I figured, I will probably end up doing the disk front. Just gotta so some more research on it. I have done quite a few projects and know the work that is part of it. I was just looking at a way to upgrade and kinda kill 2 birds with 1 stone. The only thing that bothers me now a days is a 4-5 hour trip to a car show and you should happen to break down. Its nice to be able to walk into a parts store and they have what you need on hand. Quote
binderbart Posted July 22, 2015 Author Report Posted July 22, 2015 Well , still have the car. Its been sitting since the last post. I finally got a hold of the guy and I may finally have a title for it. One quick question is, and I'm sure I'll be flamed for this. I read some where that the negative battery cable should be hooked to the positive side of the battery? I'm thinking of getting back into this project. Anything change in the last year? Did someone come up with a quick easy disc brake set up for these? Probably going to pull it back into the shop in a few weeks and start the planning process. And get the old girl to fire up again. I 'm going to look into disc on the original set up. Funny how things can get set aside. I also picked up a 60 chevy impala 4 door since I was last in here. Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 22, 2015 Report Posted July 22, 2015 The negative battery cable should be connected to the negative post on the battery. The positive battery cable should be connected to the positive post on the battery. If your car is setup for negative ground then the other end of the negative cable should be connected to a good ground. If your car is setup for positive ground then the other end of the positive ground should be connected to a good ground. Do you know how your car is setup? Quote
binderbart Posted July 23, 2015 Author Report Posted July 23, 2015 No I don't know which set up I have Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 23, 2015 Report Posted July 23, 2015 Is your car 6 or 12 volt? In there a green or red tag on your generator? Is there a generator or an alternator? When your car left the factory it was 6 volt positive ground. That may have changed over the years. Quote
casper50 Posted July 23, 2015 Report Posted July 23, 2015 Don't know about your year but I did a 4 wheel disc change on my 47 dodge and it was pure bolt on. 2 Quote
binderbart Posted July 23, 2015 Author Report Posted July 23, 2015 The car is factory 6 volt with a generator.I'll have to look at the tag today. Quote
binderbart Posted July 23, 2015 Author Report Posted July 23, 2015 I haven't found any thing bolt on for this 54 yet with my searches Quote
binderbart Posted July 23, 2015 Author Report Posted July 23, 2015 I also have a 55 Chevy parts car I took on trade for some work I did. It's a V-8 car. Lots of tri-five stuffout tthere cheap. Frame swap though. Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 23, 2015 Report Posted July 23, 2015 If your car is factory 6 volt then the positive battery cable connects to ground and the negative cable connects to the starter solenoid. Quote
binderbart Posted July 23, 2015 Author Report Posted July 23, 2015 When I got it the PO had it hooked up oppisite Quote
binderbart Posted July 23, 2015 Author Report Posted July 23, 2015 I'll double check that today Quote
