ggdad1951 Posted April 3, 2014 Report Posted April 3, 2014 Ok, I HAVE to let the cat out of the bag: I was hoping to surprise everyone with this news as being a done deal, but I gotta get a feel for the need first. I know of someone looking into repopping the grill bars for these years, and STAINLESS would be an option. I'm trying to get a feel for how many might sell, as the tooling is $$$$$$$. Pre-orders might have to be made in order to get this off the ground. Please post interest so I can report back. thanks guys! Quote
HanksB3B Posted April 3, 2014 Report Posted April 3, 2014 Very, very, cool Mark. They'd be on my wish list for sure. Will they also be available in Carbon Fiber as I'd like to lighten my truck up a bit. Hank Quote
Brent B3B Posted April 3, 2014 Report Posted April 3, 2014 I would be interested, what gauge of SS is being proposed? Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted April 3, 2014 Report Posted April 3, 2014 The park light housings are even more sought after and are a high item on the sought after list - though much more difficult to make. These if added to the grille bars would make a great package. Bob Quote
ggdad1951 Posted April 3, 2014 Author Report Posted April 3, 2014 I would be interested, what gauge of SS is being proposed? my guess is that they'd be remade at the same gauge as the carbon steel, which I think is around 22 gauge. The tolling would not be able to handle differing gauges much different from what it is designed for. Quote
Bobacuda Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 Depending on timing and cost, I would be interested. Quote
Robert Thornton Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 very interested if not to expensive Quote
Brent B3B Posted June 6, 2014 Report Posted June 6, 2014 oh, look, this came back up! is there enough interested to pursue? or is it to soon still? so, were parking light housings part of the package also? Quote
Brent B3B Posted June 6, 2014 Report Posted June 6, 2014 Buy used! Mine are going to waste are they SS? Quote
ggdad1951 Posted June 6, 2014 Author Report Posted June 6, 2014 I've emailed back to Steve.... I'd think they would be able to do ss or crs. We will see if they do anything. I asked if nothing else just do the ends as the middle parts are relatively easy to make. Quote
NiftyFifty Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 are they SS? Nope, I've never seen a set of SS on any trucks here..only the 48-50 ones Quote
Brent B3B Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 Nope, I've never seen a set of SS on any trucks here..only the 48-50 ones i thought Joe's were SS for some reason..... i am still new to this, maybe they are off something else? just thought it would be nice to complete what it came with....... can i PM you if yours are for sale? Quote
NiftyFifty Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 Ya mine are complete except missing one turn signal benzel, a few minor dents, but very goid shape. I'm doing a minor but of custom work to the front Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 Nope, I've never seen a set of SS on any trucks here..only the 48-50 ones Yep... B3 and B4 stainless grilles were available. I think they came on the spring special edition and special orders like fire trucks ect. They are extremely rare to see---ever! Some misc b3 b4 stainless.. Bob Quote
NiftyFifty Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 Cool, ya all we find up here are grain trucks and flatbeds with plain Jane bodies... Even 1/2 tons are somewhat rare around me..but back in those days trucks were for working so bigger was better. Quote
TheMoose Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 There are some SS around, some were hidden under paint I'm guessing because it was easier than straightening damaged SS. I have 3 good grill bars & a pair of whiskers but am missing the parking light buckets & trim. Quote
ggdad1951 Posted June 7, 2014 Author Report Posted June 7, 2014 again, if enough will commit to parts Steves company would build tooling.... Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted June 8, 2014 Report Posted June 8, 2014 I don't think this project can work unless there is a kinda rough cost estimate for making the grille parts. No estimate can easily be made unless it's known how many people are really serious about following through and agreeing to pay the projected costs of making the parts. Most people probably won't commit to buying these grille pieces until they know what the costs are and they can afford them . Bob Quote
ggdad1951 Posted June 8, 2014 Author Report Posted June 8, 2014 (edited) Yes it is a catch 22 I'll see if I can pry a cost estimate out of him. Edited June 8, 2014 by ggdad1951 Quote
HanksB3B Posted June 9, 2014 Report Posted June 9, 2014 again, if enough will commit to parts Steves company would build tooling.... Joe, Those stainless pieces are priceless. Most likely the came off a junked Fire Truck as they were standard City Equipment back in the day. Mark, Trying that again hey...It's a great idea but depending on a comittment from others on what I'd inagine to be a costly investment. How would Steve make a die to stamp the parking light buckets ? The rest I guess is just skillfull bending and spot welding. More realistically I could see plain sheet metal versions with a fiberglas parking light bucket (which I could probably make a mold for, but it would be more exciting if someone with access to a 3D printer could pull off. Enjoying the great hockey going on right now my two teams (grew up with the Rangers practicing at our local rink and drinking in our local pubs). When I moved to Los Angeles it was the Kings and Gretsky. Gretsky made me like the Kings and gets my vote for most talented team player. Sorry Blackhawk fans, ( not really ) Hank Quote
