pflaming Posted May 3, 2015 Report Posted May 3, 2015 (edited) Until tnow, I enjoyed your build, now I'm jealous, and I 'sorta' hope some 'cat' marked his territory on a tire!!! Lol Now get a journal and start writing stories about conversations you have as you go. Edited May 3, 2015 by pflaming 1 Quote
Mopar Posted May 4, 2015 Report Posted May 4, 2015 Great job John. Does part 2 start with the car shows? Brian is building a new windshield for me and should have it done in a month. Bill from Propack will turn in a claim to the trucking company to cover the cost of the new windshield since it was obvious that the crate had been dropped and run into with a fork lift. 1 Quote
dodge59 Posted May 4, 2015 Author Report Posted May 4, 2015 (edited) update : spare tire kit painted and installed. First car show of 2015 with my 54 dodge pace car at culver's hwy 100 cruise night. the hood is not latched down that why it looks like it is open. Edited May 4, 2015 by dodge59 Quote

Merle Coggins Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 Cool. Shoot me a PM when you hear more, or if you have plans to attend any other cruise nights. If I'm not working I'll dust off the Ol' Dodge truck and take him out for a cruise too. Merle Quote

greg g Posted May 27, 2015 Report Posted May 27, 2015 Beautiful car. Hope you get much enjoyment from it. Do you know how many are still left? There was one around when I was growing up. It was for sale when I was looking for my first car. But they wanted $500.00 for it, way out of my price range. I settled for a 52 Plymouth my cousin gave me.... Quote

dodge59 Posted May 27, 2015 Author Report Posted May 27, 2015 Well .... took the pacecar on it's first 50 mile road trip on the freeway and it ran great ! only issue was........... it seem to MAYBE have the optional 3:73 rear gear ratio vs. 3:54 . because the engine is really revving at 55mph. . I thought I read some where that that 3:73 was only installed into the over drive and 6 cyl mopars . is there any way to check by spinining the wheel one revolution and counting the drive shaft turns like a posi rear end OR would I have to pull the carrier and look at the numbers stamped ring and pinion ? other than that it was a hit at the car show I went to out of town. more to come ! greg g Posted May 27, 2015 Report Posted May 27, 2015 Jack up one side turn the wheel one turn and count the drive shaft revolutions. But the diff between 3.5 and 3.7 may not be descernable. For example if you assume 27.5 in diameter tires, a3.54 will be at 2595 rpm, while the 3.73 would be at 2735. You would have a pretty delicately calibrated back side to feel that 140 rpm difference. Kinda like a modern automatic when it goes into lock up mode. You can see on the tach, but did you really notice? 1 Quote
greg g Posted May 27, 2015 Report Posted May 27, 2015 One web site said the production was 701. Actual pace cars had Iffy 4bbl intake, replicas were 2bbl, though dealer installed non Offy 4 bbl intakes were available with carter wcfb carbs. 1 Quote

I was always told you can not calculated an open rear end gear section ... only posi rears. must be true cause it does not work that way on mine . next thing would be to connect up a tach and see what the engine is revving to. my 54 dodge royal 4 door hemi engine does not rev as high like the pace car at 60 mph . I'll put a tach on both of them and see where that are at 60 mph. Quote
