ggdad1951 Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 So while in Germany for work I took a few days for personal time and met up with one of the posters from the FB page. I also brought him some much needed parts. Below are the pictures of his truck. I went thru his truck with him and pointed out a few things he needed to change around (see the bolts on the manifold for example). While I was there is was also my birthday so at supper they surprised me with cake! Super nice guy and I had a ton of fun! The Deutsch-lish was flowing! 2 Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 Wow! Very cool. That is one clean shop. I don't think you would ever see a shop floor like that here. Jeff Quote
HanksB3B Posted February 26, 2014 Report Posted February 26, 2014 There's always something I like about a well primed truck. Look like cool guys, Looks like you had fun Mark. Hank Can you bring me back a Porsche GT2 next time you go. Quote
48Dodger Posted February 26, 2014 Report Posted February 26, 2014 (edited) Loved watching the adventure unfold on FB. 48D Edited February 26, 2014 by 48dodger Quote
ggdad1951 Posted February 26, 2014 Author Report Posted February 26, 2014 I'm TRYING to get Rocco over here, maybe the link I sent him yesterday to a thread here will get him to join up. His Englisch is pretty thin but a great guy to talk to! He's done some interesting mods to the truck replacing bad parts. The splash guards he remade behind the front wheels and look to be way stronger than original and he made new hinges for his hood as well. Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted February 26, 2014 Report Posted February 26, 2014 I give up, whats the FB page I had to think about that too...... social media???? oh ya Facebook. All these s/m things crack me up. What do you call someone who twitters all the time? A twit..of course we are in a time when most people meet their spouses online...who'd a thought? Jeff Quote
48Dodger Posted February 26, 2014 Report Posted February 26, 2014 What????? I'm 50.....I know that FB stands for Facebook! lol What always throws me off is when guys write: ferd, chivvy, faceplant or some other spelling play deal. lol Actually, I'm surprised a few more guys on the FB page ( that's a location within Facebook related to an interest of the user (someone who uses the interent)) aren't here on Pilot-House.com (a location on the internet where you are right now). I like both, cuz...well,...I like the internet. 48D (the signature I hide behind to be cool, my real name is Tim Estrada) Quote
Todd B Posted February 26, 2014 Report Posted February 26, 2014 This whole short cuts on spelling is making the next generation idiots. I had a young guy fill out his time card for me and said he worked on the ruf on 2 st. I questioned him and he truly believes that is how you spell roof. Quote
Dave72dt Posted February 26, 2014 Report Posted February 26, 2014 About 15 years ago I had the opportunity to speak to a high school class describing some the skills needed in the retail sales field and giving some relevance to the classes they were taking. The one I stressed the highest was the communications skills, reading, writing, speaking, listening and comprehension. Apparently, none of those skills are needed on social media. Quote

The one I stressed the highest was the communications skills, reading, writing, speaking, listening and comprehension. Apparently, none of those skills are needed on social media. Boy ain't that the truth! But my theory on all the s/m stuff is that they are actually afraid to speak face to face. This generation seems to have used this media to become experts at hiding the truth for as long as they can as well. Just my opinion mind you. But then I am a "what you see is what you get"....and a "I am what I am" kinda guy. Tim......I think there must be a world of difference between ages 50 and 59. I like the internet just fine......but I can't see the need for all these social media sites. Seems a poor substitute for the real thing. I think the real idea behind it is to avoid face to face rejection. One of life's most important lessons is ....not everyone you come into contact with is going to like you. The truth is people have to face these things.....eventually..... and learn how to move forward. Hiding behind an on screen persona is just putting off the inevitable. Jeff Quote
ggdad1951 Posted February 26, 2014 Author Report Posted February 26, 2014 (edited) Jeff, except for social media.....I would have never met Rocco and my other new German friends... and MANY consider internet forums "social media" as well. W Edited February 26, 2014 by ggdad1951 1 Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted February 26, 2014 Report Posted February 26, 2014 Mark; Sorry for hijacking your thread. I suppose you are correct....this forum shares at least some aspect of social media. I just find the importance placed on social media a bit overblown. Other than this forum I find I get by just fine without it. My business hasn't dropped off without it as some "experts" predicted and I manage to stay in contact with all the people who are important to me. But I suppose what works for me doesn't necessarily work for everyone. Jeff Quote
Mark D Posted February 26, 2014 Report Posted February 26, 2014 I always make a point of checking FB and the site before I leave on biz and pleasure trips. Met several fine folks these past four years of owning and wrenching on my car. Quote
Todd B Posted February 26, 2014 Report Posted February 26, 2014 I agree 100% with Jeff. I also am sorry for this forum getting side tracked Todd B Think spring, we will breaking an all time record on Thursday of the most sub zero days. 48 days this winter below zero. Quote
Todd B Posted February 26, 2014 Report Posted February 26, 2014 PS. I am 48 and think the same as you Jeff Quote
Desotodav Posted February 27, 2014 Report Posted February 27, 2014 For those of us who don't do the FB thing Mark, what are their plans for the truck? It looks great in undercoat but surely he has paint plans etc.. Quote
52b3b Posted February 27, 2014 Report Posted February 27, 2014 Hi ggdad, i've missed it. you had your turn in Germany. I am glad that you have a lot of fun. Please you have to make contact with Rocco. I have no fb. Ask Him times. My phone number is 02226 / 5215. Stay you here or are you back? The carneval has started today, womans-carneval-day. Here in the "Rheinland " is party the hole day. So i say "alaaf and helau" (carneval-greeting) Klaus Quote
ggdad1951 Posted February 27, 2014 Author Report Posted February 27, 2014 Klaus, I mentioned to him that you were in Deutschland and said I would try to get you two to at least get into contact. I will forward your information on to him. I returned to the USA on Montag Nachmittag Next trip over I hope to visit you as well! As for Rocco's plans for the truck, he's finishing a few things up and then it will go into paint I think next week. It will be a cream color like his rims, with the tailgate DODGE outlined in black. I tried to get him to do do some highlights with the orange of his engine but he wasn't going for it. Quote
