40desoto Posted December 24, 2013 Report Posted December 24, 2013 (edited) Looking for help or a diagram showing where the oil lines go from the block to the canister. Im assuming the lower one on the block go to the bottom on the canister and the one just above on the block go to the top of the canister? Also what size tubing should I be using?Test on posting anImage from photobucket from my cell Edited December 24, 2013 by 40desoto Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 24, 2013 Report Posted December 24, 2013 your plumbing as stated is correct..the line size is 3/16 OD tubing...the book states to keep the filter tightly mounted against the block and also the lines bent to be as near the block also to prevent cracking due to vibration...the mounting and plumbing is shown in the engine section of the service manual.. 40desoto Posted December 24, 2013 Author Report Posted December 24, 2013 Thank you for the details and pictures. My shop manual does not cover the oil filter since my desoto did not come with an oil filter. Quote
P15-D24 Posted December 24, 2013 Report Posted December 24, 2013 Really need to check the cannister for inlet/outlet labels. I have seen them reversed on identical looking cannisters. Quote
54Illinois Posted December 24, 2013 Report Posted December 24, 2013 Is the date code on that engine block 1929? Quote

pflaming Posted December 25, 2013 Report Posted December 25, 2013 Oil lines: At this year's electric farm equipment parade, one entry was a mid 50's Oldsmobile, a beautiful car. At the very end of the parade route, it burst into flames. Emergency people got him out ok. Seems he had used a plastic line to his oil gauge, it 'broke' and pumped oil on the manifold and 'BAAM'. A word to the wise should be sufficient. I have a steel line. Quote
40desoto Posted December 27, 2013 Author Report Posted December 27, 2013 Pflaming, thank you for the warning. I have been makeing sure evey fitting is nice and tight and making sure I use the correct fittings etc. Does anyone happen to have a part number for an oil filter that will fit this oil canister? I saw ebay auction that had what looked like this exact canister Nd it was lited under a 1952 chrystler 5th avenue. Does this sound correct? Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 27, 2013 Report Posted December 27, 2013 I believe this one is correct for your filter assembly. Quote
Young Ed Posted December 28, 2013 Report Posted December 28, 2013 I believe this one is correct for your filter assembly. That probably crossed to a napa 1080 which should also be a wix 21080 I believe. Quote
40desoto Posted December 28, 2013 Author Report Posted December 28, 2013 Yes. its 1080. I just ordered from Napa and also comes with both gaskets. They had Napa Oil Filter #FIL 1071 that cames up for a 1951 Dodge Coronet. Looks like the 1080 but I had a hard time getting the cover on the canister to close. Im assuming its a bit taller that the 1080. Quote
40desoto Posted December 28, 2013 Author Report Posted December 28, 2013 I just compared the 1080 and 1071 filters on the Napa website and they are the exact same dimensions. Anyone know the difference? Quote
