Old Plymouths Forum Appears to be Hacked

Really bummed when going to visit the Old Plymouths Forum today to see a message screen up that it's been hacked. I quickly closed out my internet browser for fear of catching a virus and ran a scan just in case.

That site as well as this one I visit often for help with my '52 Cranbrook.

I don't know how to communicate with the administrators of "Old Plymouths Forum" but if someone does, please let them know.

Why hack a site like that?

That's so freakin' immature.

My antivirus diverted me from the  "Old Plymouths" Forum too. It said it saved me from a Trojan Horse of all ungodly things!!!! The end of that infected slow site for me.

I know someone who had his site hacked about 3 times. Last time the hacker left the message "Enjoyed hacking your site". doing it just because he can and in the meantime trashed a lot of information and cost site owner most of his livelihood.

I also got that hack warning and left the arena quickly, also did a complete scan for GP.  couple weeks back I got a Trojan from IMDB...as I did not know it at the time and my computer discovered it and did the erase/clan action...I picked it up the next day all over again...the third time I realized it was IMDB and never have been back..no more problems but I miss my IMDV site...loads of info..

I pasted a warning of the IMDB Trojan here also

I can never understand why idiots who have the knowledge and know how in doing something as asinine as hacking a car website does not use his or her skills to do something productive.

If I had those computer skills I would have my own computer business helping people removing the idiots who have hacked them or removing viruses from their computer.

It can be and often is a weird world out there. I run AVG Free and it seems to keep my computer clean and well protected. I agree hackers are morons who could use their skills to better effect legitimately.

The hackers are looking for platforms for several uses. Here are three very basic ways they use them.

  • They can get sensitive information directly from the hacked site such as passwords, because most people use the same email address/ password for everything, including banking and some online purchasing where they already have your credit card on file.

  • They use hacked sites to park stolen data on someone else's server.

  • They use the hacked servers to do an orchestrated distributed denial of service attack (DDoS) on a target. This attack uses a collection of hacked servers to attack a target server that may have critical business, financial, government or military information. Some target servers that get overloaded from requests in a DDoS and they sometimes give up or allow the hacker to penetrate to get sensitive information out of them.

There are thousands of other uses, but these should give you an idea of why innocent sites get hacked.

I wouldn't doubt if they do both....create the problem & get hired to fix it (obviously unknown to the person or business being hacked).......sort of like the glazier who breaks windows in a business district not far from his business....who are they going to call to replace the broken windows, probably him.

kinda like the many nails and such found on the streets in the vicinity of the only tire sales/repair shop for miles..
