48Dodger Posted November 15, 2013 Report Posted November 15, 2013 (edited) 7TH ANNUAL CLEMENTS TAILGATE BBQAPRIL 5TH 2014 I want to extend and invation to any and all car guys who wish to hang out at the Clements Tailgate BBQ with us truck guys! If you aren't aware of the event, its a great way to meet forum members and their rides. It's mostly trucks, but there is more than enough room for everybody. It's not a show so much as a BBQ with good friends. It's the 7th one, and cars guys have shown up in the past, and I want more....you guys are to much fun! lol.... 48D Last years event...6th BBQ If you want to comment on the truck side...7th BBQ Edited January 7, 2014 by 48dodger 1 Quote
mrwrstory Posted November 15, 2013 Report Posted November 15, 2013 Just put this event on my brand new 2014 calendar, as the very first entry. Let's hope with this early provocation that more of the vintage Mopar afflicted will do the same. I find that by highlighting an event date early on, attendance is more likely to happen. I have not yet had the pleasure of chatting with many Forum members face to face. It was disappointing to have missed Coatney and Billy after they drove 3-4K miles and we were but 350 miles separated. Looks to me that Clements is about 350 miles. I'd spend an extra day. Can you recommend a cheap motel? 1 Quote
48Dodger Posted November 15, 2013 Author Report Posted November 15, 2013 Plenty of room to camp....had a few in travel trailers last year and if there is room in house, you're welcome there too. As far as motels, it looks like Lodi (12 miles away) is the best bet. My preference would be campin out.....last years nights around the fire pit were awesome. 48D Quote
martybose Posted November 15, 2013 Report Posted November 15, 2013 Unless something weird happens, I'll be trying for two in a row! It was fun being with a virtually all flathead crowd! Marty 1 Quote
Mark Haymond Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 I drove my 47 Plymouth coupe last year. I was wingman for Paul's Dodge truck making its first extended trip. Here are my photos of the rides, faces, and a unique Dodge BBQ truck. http://markhaymond.smugmug.com/Cars/2013-Clements-Tailgate-Bar-B/n-qSjM2 Quote
knuckleharley Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 Sure is good to see so many adults there that are under 50. Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 Good to see so many adults there that are adults. Quote
48Dodger Posted November 21, 2013 Author Report Posted November 21, 2013 Sure is good to see so many adults there that are under 50. Gave out awards this last time. Youngest truck owner: 19 and Oldest truck owner: 81......he uses his truck as a daily driver around town. Mark got a great picture of him. He's the one with the vest and cowboy hat. His truck is the "dusty" green one. The 19 y/o drove his in progress truck 100 miles to be at the BBQ. He use to live near me, but moved. He's been at the last three BBQ's and plans on making the drive again in 2014. And as far as 50 goes.....I turn 50 one month before this next shin dig, so guess who will be celebrating with his truck this year? That would be me! lol. 48D Quote

Paul, Have you installed a proper gas tank yet? Do you still use the 5 gal. gas tank mounted on the running board? I hope not-scary! Hope to see ya at the BBQ this year also! Doug Quote
48Dodger Posted February 19, 2014 Author Report Posted February 19, 2014 Just a bump and a reminder to the car side. CARS ARE WELCOME TO THE BBQ!!! Bring your friends, your friend's car...it don't matter. Glad to have everybody over! If you didn't hear, Don Coatney is flying out to the left coast to have a burger with us! Wohoo!!! We'll see you there! 48D Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 19, 2014 Report Posted February 19, 2014 Tim; You were a little premature in posting my attendance a couple weeks ago. But I did pull the trigger two days ago and my reservations are now booked. Save me a parking slot close to the action as my knee is not good for a lot of walking. I did book a flight with two stops between Nashville and Sacramento but no plane changes. The last stop is in Canada so I will be coming from a foreign country. Quote
48Dodger Posted February 19, 2014 Author Report Posted February 19, 2014 Wow, no kidding! I thought you had it figgerd out already...my bad. My apologies to Lisa. Dang...Canada? Sounds like a tough route, hope you get a great seat! I'm working on two plans for the parking. One is a valet (my son), and the other is my brother's Yamaha Rhino (think golf cart).....since the parking is at least 400 feet from the party area, I wanna make it easy for people to get around. 48D Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 19, 2014 Report Posted February 19, 2014 No problem. Original plan was Lisa coming to visit a friend in Fresno. That fell through so I will be coming by myself. What time Saturday do the festivities began? Quote
48Dodger Posted February 19, 2014 Author Report Posted February 19, 2014 There will be people spending the night before and after.....and some vehicles show up a few days early to reduce the stress of driving* But officially it starts at 9am til its OVER.....and that can be late in the evening sitting around the fire pit. 48D * Gary drives his 48 Panel truck from the Bay Area about hundred miles...takes his time and makes a day of it...his wife follows in the family car. Then he rides home with his wife...this usally happens on a Wednesday. He shows up Saturday, enjoys the BBQ and then goes home. Early in the week, he'll show up and enjoy the day driving it back home. Gary is a pretty easy going kinda guy. lol. Quote

Don Coatney Posted February 19, 2014 Report Posted February 19, 2014 Same here Marty. It will be good to see old friends and meet up with new friends. Quote
mrwrstory Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 Dang!!!! I'll miss it,....but the up side is...... one of our fraternity, Ed Compton from Vancouver Island, BC (I think he's 40plyrod) and his family are vacationing in SoCal over that weekend. Ed and his ladies were wonderful hosts when I visited Victoria last Summer. I get to reciprocate and that's a feel good thing! Maybe next year, eh? Quote

martybose Posted April 3, 2014 Report Posted April 3, 2014 Just bringing this thread back to the top to say that I hope to see some more car folks in Clement this Saturday! Marty Quote
judsonhauling Posted October 14, 2014 Report Posted October 14, 2014 Will there be an 8th annual? I swear one year I am going to drive coast to coast just for the BBQ. Quote
48Dodger Posted October 14, 2014 Author Report Posted October 14, 2014 YES! Will be posting the new threads next week. 48D Quote
pflaming Posted October 15, 2014 Report Posted October 15, 2014 Classic Trucks should attend the event and possibly "Mopar". It's unusual, possibly none like it anywhere. The kids are asking if they can be there again. With Darlene along, the kids make four in the cab and I don't think the Highway Patrol will endorse that though the cab is wide enough. Quote
