Plymouthy Adams Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 It is not quite peanut season..the wheat just got harvested..sometims they plant the peanuts just after the wheat fields are burnt.. When peanuts are being harvested..seems every 30 cup coffee maker at work is cooking peanuts..they sure smell good..but I have NEVER eaten one..sorry..could be the best treat in the world..I do however like them raw..just before you throw them in the boiler..I prefer them raw over roasted.. We have stands here that run year around..it depends on wether or not the person has stocked enough peanuts for the year... Quote

Like Tim, I never developed a taste for them but I learned to like raw peanuts back when I kept parrots as pets. They loved 'em and we would bond by sharing some. When I first moved to the south I discovered another treat---package of salted peanuts poured into a tall cold bottle of RC Cola. Yum. Quote

Like them in the shell, in the can, in the jar, in the paper bag, and with the skin on or off. I like peanut butter smooth, crunchy, natural, and homonogized on toast, bread, pancakes, french toast, with banannas (long live Elvis), and straight out of the jar. But a boiled peanut destroys what could otherwise be good eats. Quote

Normspeed Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 If you want a serious treat from the deep south, try some smoked mullet. Fresh mullet is so oily, fishy and mealy that it's normally just used for bait or chum. But properly smoked, it's a real treat. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Mullet..fun fish to catch..they be lots of fun..eating..not sure even smoked because of the hair like bones..I can share an old time favorite recipe for mullet...you need to near near a farm though as the main ingredient, 4.5 lbs of horse manure is needed...take that, 3 fresh mullet, preheat oven at...yada yada yada ..2 hours later throw away the mullet and eat the horse manure...
