MaineP15 Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 Brand new member, have been reading a lot, bought the car a week ago and its stranded at my fathers until I get new rear brake shoes which will eliminate the concerning clunking noise present when applying the brakes. Car was quite rust free, pics of what rust was on the floor board and patch work (that I did not do)... also buffed out hubcap.. Quote
Chester Brzostowski Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 Hi, And welcome to the forum. There is a lot of good information on this forum and if you can't find what you need somebody will definitely steer you in the right direction. Chet... Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 Welcome.........any pics of the car itself? As a suggestion............two of the first things to invest in are a Service/repair manual and a Parts manual.......both available in reprint and sometimes good originals on E-bay. Keep us posted on your doings. Quote
Mark D Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 What did you use to buff out the hubcaps? Quote

steveplym Posted August 7, 2013 Report Posted August 7, 2013 Yes try restoration specialities. Search for them online, they have lots of trim clips. Quote
MaineP15 Posted August 7, 2013 Author Report Posted August 7, 2013 Thanks Steve, yes I found Resto specialties and will go with them. Mark, elbow grease on the hubcaps...sorry for the delay.... I think I need to polarize the generator? anyone done this? It is wired for positive ground but battery is negative ground. Quote

I think I need to polarize the generator? anyone done this? It is wired for positive ground but battery is negative ground. If the battery was installed backwards you may have to polarize the generator. Have you gotten the engine started? If so does it show its charging? Quote
MaineP15 Posted August 7, 2013 Author Report Posted August 7, 2013 Hello Tod, yes it starts well and purrs like a kitten. Cranks S-L-O-W-L-Y but I think its a weak battery. It shows its charging... Im not sure it is though?? battery seems to stay weak but it may just be too old to take a charge. I just want to get it set up right! Quote
Don Jordan Posted August 7, 2013 Report Posted August 7, 2013 Would like to welcome you aboard. This forum has been a God send to me. I'm sort of mechanically challenged. Many will be patient with you until your question is answered. Good luck. You've got a good looking car. Quote

Niel Hoback Posted August 7, 2013 Report Posted August 7, 2013 If this is your first experience with six volt cars, you will probably find that they seem to turn over very slowly. Get used to it, thats normal. 1 Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted August 8, 2013 Report Posted August 8, 2013 Keep up the good work and post more pics! There are lotsa people here who can give you great advice when you need it too. As for the slow cranking make sure the battery is good under a quality load test. I like HD group 2's. Check that the battery cables are as thick as your thumb,1/0 ga. is good with real copper! Check that all connections and gounds are very clean/free of paint dirt ect. too. Bob Quote
