bob westphal Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 Quite a while ago I mentioned on the forum that I was installing a slant 6/904 automatic in my P-15 club coupe. The engine is in and running. It is a tight fit but was done without cutting much sheet metal. The only cutting was done on the pan in front of the radiator when I moved it to the front of the support and the bottom of the support was cut to allow clearance for the crank pulley and belt. A new crossmember was fabbed for mounting the tranny. Due the fact that I retained the stock steering gear, there was no room to use the stock SL6 exhaust manifold. I fabricated a somewhat unique header set that would put the exhaust outlets in front of and behind the gearbox and will give me a sweet sounding dual exhaust system. I used most of the original shifting mechanism and shift rods by a little cutting and bending. bob 2 Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 Yeah.........lots of people say they'd like to put a slant six in these old Plyms, but since it's not very easy to do, it seldom happens. As you said........it takes a bit of re-engineering to make it happen. Good job. Quote
mrwrstory Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 Yeah, nice job. Love the shift linkage. Now that it's all together and cleaned up,....looks like it should be there. Not rocket science. Just a step at a time. Amazing what you can do, eh!. Quote
bob westphal Posted July 5, 2013 Author Report Posted July 5, 2013 Any engine swap is a big job. Really this was much easier than a V/8 swap. The slant 6 slipped right in. It was just a matter of fabricating mounts and a crossmember. I used as many original parts as i could. Most V/8 swaps require cutting out and fabricating inner fender panels, different front suspension, steering, and modifying the firewall. Bob Quote
greg g Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 Did you need to cut the firewall to accept the additional length? Did you message the pass side inner fender to improve access to the Distributor? Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 What are you using for a radiator? I have owned a couple of slant six engines and liked them. Quote

Frank Elder Posted July 6, 2013 Report Posted July 6, 2013 You need larger more focused pictures.....these last ones look all washed out....kinda whitish...lol! Quote
bob westphal Posted July 6, 2013 Author Report Posted July 6, 2013 These pics should answer any questions as to how every thing fit and what parts I used. Bob Quote
Frank Elder Posted July 6, 2013 Report Posted July 6, 2013 Bob, you really need to change the picture size setting on your camera....when I click on your snaps they actually get smaller not larger. Quote
bob westphal Posted July 7, 2013 Author Report Posted July 7, 2013 Hey, I'm a computer illiterate old man and it took me hours just to get the pics posted. Quote
