41/53dodges Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 Hello all, my friend got me a pair of mopar 819 radios, he said they look like the photo of a 53' PH radio. does anybody know what they go in? Maybe if they look close enough I will install it just for the heck of having a radio. Thanks! Josh Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 try E-bay...application is listed with model number 90% of the time Quote
Desotodav Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 The 819 model may fit in your truck Josh. I found the attached picture that shows an 820 and says that it is similar to an 819. The turn knobs on the 819/820 appear to be horizontally in line with the pre-select buttons (different to the ever elusive 610T model radio). There have been many forum discussions on the topic of radios, with this one started by Hank possibly the most comprehensive... http://mopar.pairserver.com/p15d24ph_forum/topic/27822-motorola-610-t-restoration/?hl=+610t%20+radio . I suppose that whether it will fit or not depends on what the radio cut-out in your dash looks like? I had a quick search but didn't find a photo of the dash area of your truck. ...Then you are faced with the difficult decision of where to mount your aerial! We appear more fortunate here in Oz not to have to make these difficult radio decisions as we only had the choice of the more popular 602 or 802 vertically mounted radios (photo of mine attached). Good luck with your radio quest. Quote
HanksB3B Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 Hey mate, your radio is on the wrong side...and so is your steering wheel! Hank Your radio sure looks good though. Does it work? Quote
Desotodav Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 Yep, thanks Hank. I lost that argument quite sometime ago whilst making a crack about you guys driving on the wrong side of the road. I conceded that (as my 52 truck was made in Canada) it was the honorable thing to do by admitting that we are in fact the guys that have things on the 'wrong side'... LOL... Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 My 52 has a factory cut out that looks like it was made to accept an 819/820. I never found any evidence that a radio had ever been installed but the cut out was clearly made by the factory and not added later. Jeff Quote
HanksB3B Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 (edited) Looks like you are correct. I think I happen to have one. I'll have to look for it. Hank Edited May 11, 2013 by HanksB3B Quote
41/53dodges Posted May 11, 2013 Author Report Posted May 11, 2013 Sadly my truck has no radio cutout! Is there any chance anybody has any measurements of it as far as placement? Thanks! Josh Quote
ggdad1951 Posted May 12, 2013 Report Posted May 12, 2013 (edited) Jeff, that looks just like mine....maybe a mythical 610T belongs there? 41/53dodges, If you want I can make a template w/ measurements if no one else get to you first. Edited May 12, 2013 by ggdad1951 Quote

Mark; Could be? I am not going to bother with a radio. I am super fussy about what I listen too......and it is just not on what passes for radio these days. Jeff Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 12, 2013 Report Posted May 12, 2013 I would rather listen to a nagging wife and her mother in the car than DJ's on the radio...so I opt for "NONE OF THE ABOVE" I listed to primary my own medley of road tunes on CD.. Quote

Tim; Amen. I am really partial to the I tunes format. I have about 1400 of my favorite tunes loaded on the one in my shop and usually just hit shuffle. It is really easy to create playlists ....... which can be great for long drives and other activities. Jeff Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted May 12, 2013 Report Posted May 12, 2013 The 819 radio is for the 53 Plymouth's. David A. Posted May 12, 2013 Report Posted May 12, 2013 You are all probably aware of it already, but there are at least two companies that will convert your radio to solid state AM/FM, and add an input jack on the bottom where it can't be seen so you can listen to your iPod or CD player through your radio. The radio still looks and functions just as it did from the factory. I had mine converted, but haven't installed it yet. I'm still trying to get the paint buffed out on the cab! David Quote
