So the weekend found some time to putz with the latches and linkages more.  I measured for some bushings to solidify things up at the joints and make things more reliable and am waiting for my buddy to get those back to me, but yah...I might be putting a few access holes in strategically to get these installed.  Luckily the interior will be covered in a big removable panel.

ALSO I got....an NOS hood ornament in perfect condition!  I see zero pits and plan on just dropping it on with no repairs.

I don't think ANY font can express the amount of jealousy I am experiencing right now!  All I can say is WOW!

Does the box have a part number visible?

Have you looked at the bottom side of the ornament to see if the number matches the box?  From what I've read Dodge changed the part number in their catalog but all of the ornaments had the same number cast inside.

When you first posted the picture of the box I was reading the post on my phone in the sunlight and couldn't make out the lettering on the box.  Now that I'm looking at the picture on my computer I see that the number was easily visible.  I guess these old eyes just don't function as well as they used to......:(

Knowing your luck, you probably got a two-pack and the other one is going on your "achievement wall"....

How hard would it be to make a set of dies and press your own? Could you use a press on the weekend with permission at CAT?

Honestly, I've been in conversations with several vendors over this exact process to make these parts as repops....the tooling involved could easily run to $25k (or more) and SS is way more PITA factor than carbon steel...likely sales don't justify the tooling in general.

Why would I have access at CAT?  I know at CUMMINS we can't use company tooling AT ALL.

Well, isn’t that peculiar?.....I apologize for taking this off topic.

notice the mounting holes on the one I’m holding versus the one that you’re holding.

I don’t think mine would work for you after all. Go ahead and send me yours and I’ll take a closer look ?

Ah that's right.... Cummins, Cat, got them mixed up....funk.

I don't know much about tool and die making but have heard that they look down at machinists.

Would a SS die be different than for carbon steel? One-step stamp or several for this part?
