JIPJOBXX Posted December 20, 2012 Report Posted December 20, 2012 (edited) This Utube presentation was filmed around 1957 or so and its just fun to look at the cars and the see how many you can name and spot? I know I saw 55 Mercury Montclair black of which I owned one at one time. Anyway for you guys that love old cars than this is right up your street. Oh yes there some good music in the background-enjoy Jon:) PS. Back in the 60's I spent some time down in this neck of the woods and have some real interesting memories. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=7LpPKAhW9-s&vq=medium Edited December 22, 2012 by JIPJOBXX Quote
55 Fargo Posted December 20, 2012 Report Posted December 20, 2012 Nice video, some exhaust pipes smokin old raw exhaust. Lots of smog in the back drop, in the Hollywood Hills... Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted December 20, 2012 Author Report Posted December 20, 2012 Yea I notice the smog also They almost wipe out a T-Bird also. Quote
randroid Posted December 20, 2012 Report Posted December 20, 2012 Gents, Noticed a few '57 Chevys but nothing with dual headlights so I'm going to assume that was the year it was made, regardless if Henry James just put out a big-band recording or not. Think that T-Bird would have made it through the intersection today? -Randy Quote
Don Jordan Posted December 21, 2012 Report Posted December 21, 2012 I noticed that people drive just as crazy then as they do now. That T Bird pulled right in front of the camera. And the car didn't yield for pedestrians. It sure takes me back. I wish I would have bought land there. A nice trip down memory lane. Quote
TodFitch Posted December 21, 2012 Report Posted December 21, 2012 I'm trying to figure out the camera placement. Seems like it is on or maybe even over the center line a lot. Maybe it was mounted outside the driver's window? Nobody, even pedestrians at the traffic light seem to pay it any attention though which I'd expect if it was mounted outside the car. Nice documentary of the streets as they were with a sample of clothing fashion, signage, etc. Thanks for posting! Quote
desoto1939 Posted December 21, 2012 Report Posted December 21, 2012 The old bell telephone linemans trucks brings back alot of memories for me. My uncle drove one. Those were great trucks to have when you were an electrician becasue of all the drawers and storeage space and with the ladder rack attached. Have wated this several times and get to see more things everytime I watch it. This was a time when things were alot simpler and no shootings in our schools like last Friday. Rich HArtung Quote
james49ply Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 I didn't see 6 cars run the red at the lights, seems that people were courteous back then. Now they run you over. Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 Looks like a 46-48 D24 right at the end in the oncoming lane. Quite a few of those pedestrians would be risking their lives if they crossed the street like that nowadays. I noticed the driver of the car making the film wasn't much more courteous than anyone else, almost hit that tall lady on a right turn. I guess we'd have to remember that pedestrians didn't have the right-of-way back then like they do now before we judge too much. The golden rule was "courtesy" - not whether it was legal or illegal. I like these old movies, not only for the cars and trucks, but the old signs, too. Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted December 22, 2012 Author Report Posted December 22, 2012 I'm glad that every one is enjoying this film. It is just fun to watch and think of the past. I have short story about where this film was produced and that is a time long ago and a crazy thing to do . One night during a rain storm down in LA where I lived for a few months a friend and I went down to the same general area of LA and dropped oft a packet of florence green sea marker dye (The kind they would use if you were out in the middle of the pacific ocean and wanted to be seen from high above!) Anyway when this stuff diluted with water it turns to a nice green color. Well we decided it would be cool just to drop oft a package of this material right smack in the middle of Hollywood and Vine. Our plan worked out perfect as after about an haft and hour we came back and it seemed that our dye had be spread for miles with tire tracks. Oh of course this was in the late evening also. Just things you do when your a kid and nothing else to do with your spare time but to have a little fun. That stuff never hurt anyone's car but it sure looked great and I do remember that as it was yesterday. Quote
