pflaming Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 I've been here a bit but now it's official, I just purchased a '53 Plymouth Cranbrook Convertible. Since the chassis is very close to my 52 Dodge Pilot-house this will be a much easier project. For some reason the '52 / 53 Plymouths steered and drove MUCH better than their counterpart Chevys and Fords so I now have a great winter project. Wish me well. Quote
Young Ed Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 Congrats welcome to the dark side! You will find that the drivetrain is quite similar but the independant front suspension is a welcome addition compared to the pilot house. Let me know if you need anything there's a "few" parts laying around the place. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 (edited) there are those that say the 53/54 steered better due to the 114 wheelbase as compared to 117/118 1/2 earlier & full bodied cars same years..the wagons and the Concorde sedan plus the business coupes 49/52 fell into the 111 WB catagory and again most like their handling.. I think you going to enjoy building this car...I have found the bodies in the area of the rockers and floors having fewer surprises.. Edited December 3, 2012 by Tim Adams Quote
JerseyHarold Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 Congrats on the new project. Do you have any history on the car? Quote
mrwrstory Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 Looking at your pics, I assume you bought the rusty one Also check you PMs Quote

pflaming Posted December 4, 2012 Author Report Posted December 4, 2012 Bob and others thank you! OT Bob, in 1971 I took two 2-man debate teams to Springfield, MO to a debate tournament. I did not realize quite how far it was. We drove in a growing blizzard from Omaha to Kansas City where the snow turned into rain. Was getting fuel and thought if it gets cold tonight this city will be all ice, so we drove east and south another 50 miles. In the morning we woke up to a sunny spring day and in Springfield the lawns were all nice and green. KC froze in no one made it out of town. What a change in weather 200 miles straight south can make. The Springfield debate coaches name was Bob Bealeu. OT Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 Interesting story Paul. There is a weather change line somewhere in the vicinity of Nevada, MO......which is around halfway between Kansas City and Joplin. Springfield is about 70 miles East of Joplin......so we both get similar weather much of the time. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 I believe the funky weather is due to the ever shifting jet stream Quote
