chopped51 Posted November 6, 2012 Report Posted November 6, 2012 I'm scratching my head on this one. It's electric. It doesn't work. I have to pull it out to rebuild it or replace it. So the question is how? So what kind of car is it? Well it's registered as a 49' Dodge. Here's a pic. It sure as hell aint a 49' Dodge. 46' - 48' Plymouth? Looking forward to any help or suggestions getting this wiper motor out.. Thanks. Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 6, 2012 Report Posted November 6, 2012 Is the engine in your car 25" long? Quote
chopt50wgn Posted November 6, 2012 Report Posted November 6, 2012 The motor should be at the top of the dash ,under the outside vent. It's just getting under the dash and removing the screws. Check with Newport Engineering ,they may have a replacement motor. Quote
40P10touring sedan Posted November 6, 2012 Report Posted November 6, 2012 Plymouths got the vacuum wipers, so that leaves it as a dodge or chrysler...can we see the dash for more clues? Reason Don asks what length head is that dodge/plymouth got 23" long blocks while chrysler got 25". Per motor removal, there's two nuts that hold the wiper motor assy in and two wiper rod arms that have clips that'll have to be removed waaaay up near the top of the dash. Nice more door! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 6, 2012 Report Posted November 6, 2012 I was thinking the question was asked as it may be a Canadian model Quote
T120 Posted November 6, 2012 Report Posted November 6, 2012 ..Looking at the visor, perhaps Eastern Canada? Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 6, 2012 Report Posted November 6, 2012 Tim Adams said: I was thinking the question was asked as it may be a Canadian model That is correct. Most likely a Plodge as the location is the Pacific North west. Quote
RobertKB Posted November 6, 2012 Report Posted November 6, 2012 It is either a Plymouth or Canadian Dodge. Front fenders do not continue into the door as in the US Dodge, Chrysler, and Desoto. It does appear to have US Dodge bumpers as they are not correct to the car and are too big judging by the space between the gravel guard and rear bumper. Canadian and US Plymouths and Canadian Dodges came with vacuum wipers so if the car has electric, it was an upgrade performed by a previous owner. Quote
chopped51 Posted November 6, 2012 Author Report Posted November 6, 2012 Thanks guys. Yes, it's a Plodge, but no idea where it came from. It was a stripped shell when I got it and I got a Dodge parts car for bumpers and such (that's why they look to big) As for the wiper motor..... I can see it, I can see where the 2 nuts (or bolts) are at the top of the drive are but can't get at them. I can't even touch them. I'll try and post a picture later. Thanks again for the input. Plymouthy Adams Posted November 6, 2012 Report Posted November 6, 2012 odds are the best best to drop the wiper would be to remove the arms and post nuts on the cowl..then remove the nuts on the iso posts behind the dash center...electrically disconnect and drop the unit..disc onnected the special clips are a pain..however if you wish to do that it can yet be done to disconnect the left and right arms from the motor assembly and drop the unit.. chopped51 Posted November 6, 2012 Author Report Posted November 6, 2012 Here's the pictures I promised..... Tim Adams, I am trying to "drop the wiper motor" I'm here because I can figure out how. The link was interesting but didn't help me. Still looking for help getting this motor out! Disregard the steering wheel, from a different project. Hope these help. Thanks heaps. Quote
40P10touring sedan Posted November 6, 2012 Report Posted November 6, 2012 On my plymouth, the two nuts...studs welded in the top inner dash section there by the rod support piece, should be under that outward bump by the support rod....wanna say 9/16"? My dash is out so the procedure is much easier...oh...watch those two inner wiper arm clips/washers to drop the arms from the wiper motor- small and like to go flying! Quote
40P10touring sedan Posted November 6, 2012 Report Posted November 6, 2012 Here's mine, dash out and you can see my new fancy electric wiper motor installed....vacumm wipers, well, suck! Quote
chopped51 Posted November 7, 2012 Author Report Posted November 7, 2012 Well I also have electric wipers. Not working. 40P10touring, how do I get at the nuts? I've put my hand up there every way but inside out. I can't even feel them. Do I have to take the cowl vent out or something? Quote
chopped51 Posted November 7, 2012 Author Report Posted November 7, 2012 I'll take another try at this tomorrow, You say the whole bracket comes out, that kinda makes sense. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the clear pictures. Quote

40P10touring sedan Posted November 8, 2012 Report Posted November 8, 2012 Here's a pic of the bracket that mounts the wiper motor to the dash brace- You guys will note the round rod the comes from the dash brace/mounting to the lower dash brace where the cowl vent handle is...the top of that round rod is where the dash pushes out 3/8" "by that round rod"...under the jut out is the two nuts in question....don't make me ask if you want a pic of my ....! 40P10touring sedan Posted November 11, 2012 Report Posted November 11, 2012 Any luck/progress Chopped? Quote
chopped51 Posted November 13, 2012 Author Report Posted November 13, 2012 Finally hauled my *** out to the shop and pulled the wiper motor. Thanks to you guys for your advise and pictures. It wasn't to bad, just very akward because I'm 6'5" and it was a pretzel thing reaching under the dash. I pulled it out, took it apart, cleaned it and put a new switch on top of the dash. Total of 2 hours. I can't figure out the park feature but I got hi and low so I'm a happy camper. Thanks again!!! Quote
