Plymouthy Adams Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 I believe the product is actually masticated rubber..it is a cotton cord impregnated in rubber..does anyone here have a source for this in the right width and thickness for assembly of the P15? my main source of items of this nature has it only in sheet form.. thanks Quote
greg g Posted June 12, 2012 Report Posted June 12, 2012 My body guy had it on a roll ( actually he had several i different widths) from the body shop supply place just rubber though no canvass. He had what I used to do the body to frame areas on a TR2 he was working on. Worked a trick as they say. Also somebody showed me a John Deere parts catalog once and it seemed to contain every rubber part known to man. Quote
RobertKB Posted June 12, 2012 Report Posted June 12, 2012 I used tar paper on my '38 Chrysler. No squeaks 10 years later. Quote
hkestes41 Posted June 12, 2012 Report Posted June 12, 2012 I used the "Rubber Wall Base Cove" like you would see in an office building in place of base boards. Picked it up a Home Depot for something like $3.00 for a 4 inch wide X 4 foot long strip that is 0.125 inches thick. They even have different colors so you can coordinate with your paint color. I didn't go to HD looking for it but just walked past one day and the light went on. Laid it against the cowl where the fenders meet and marked it with a pencil then cut it with a razor knife. Has been in there for about 3 - 4 year through removal of the dog house twice and still working fine. Quote
MacGyver Posted June 12, 2012 Report Posted June 12, 2012 Pardon my ignorance, I'm not much of a body guy. Where would one use such a product? (Aside from the lone example above) Quote
greg g Posted June 12, 2012 Report Posted June 12, 2012 It is used to provide cushioning between the fendesr and the cowl and between the fenders and the grill assembly. Generally the strips are about 1 inch wide and 2 to three inches long and are inserted when the pieces are bolted together. Quote
40P10touring sedan Posted June 12, 2012 Report Posted June 12, 2012 Tim, try Grainger or McMaster-Carr...we get the thicker stuff for pads for under some of the machines at work. Do a web search...I remember running into a place that had it in 3' or 4' rolls or squares at 1/4" or better thick. G or MMC above should have it too. How big a piece are you looking for and at what thickness? Quote
Jerry Roberts Posted June 13, 2012 Report Posted June 13, 2012 Is there a business in your area that specializes in rubber products ? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted June 13, 2012 Author Report Posted June 13, 2012 no business that I can think of...I have sit here an tried my best to think of a company that may have something similar...only thing I can honestly come up with that is close to what I need is glass setting tape...only masticated rubber I can find is in sheet form and will require me cut strips and then I am set at 4 foot max run then I will have to splice..now 4 foot should do about all applications that come to mind.. Plymouthy Adams Posted June 13, 2012 Author Report Posted June 13, 2012 not familar with that product but as I need to run out and get a belt for my compressor..I can run by and check this stuff out..thanks Quote
greg g Posted June 13, 2012 Report Posted June 13, 2012 It only 25 mil thick so it may need to be doubled up. I have been using it to stick down the insulation stuff I am using on the floor boards. Quote
deathbound Posted June 17, 2012 Report Posted June 17, 2012 Steele has this, copied directly from their catalog...... Masticated sheet. 3/32" thick rubber sheet containing random milled cotton cord reinforcement for front end splash aprons, etc. This product is 4 foot high, and will only be sold in 4 (four) foot multiples (4' x 1', 4' x 2', 4' x 3', etc...). Used on most models. 70-0645-45.....$ 7.30/sqf You'd still have to cut it up in strips. Quote
